  • Surprise - more stupid AI tricks

The Grendarl refused all of my attempts at diplomacy. I gave them Decom Centers and Deep Core Mining. I offered 2 DEA enhancement techs for one of his techs. I offered a trade agreement and a NA pact.

Yet he refused everything, stole one of my techs, so I wanted to chastise him. I threatened him.

And of course he declared war.

I've destroyed one of his ships that attacked me. I offered a cease fire.

    "Not in our interest now."

I have 20 ships to his 5. I could blast his planets, but I don't want this war.

    The more things change.....

BTW, why aren't you allowed to offer AU's for a gift?

You did not say who you are, but if it I-Kools, then others don't like you.

If you want [peace you have to remove all sources of irritation. This means not contesting shared systems too which makes keeping peaceful in the end game very difficult if you fall out with a former ally. All your shared system colonies are blocaded so you have to fight to feed them or let them be blocaded to try and restore a non-aggression pact.

I am finding the diplomacy more comprehensible the more I play the game though, including what things upset other AI players.

I have not attacked him. I have not entered any system where he has colonies. They are simply pissed because according to the book their ancestors were banned to the surface by my ancestors. Hey, I didn't do it you stupid lizard - blame my great great great great great great great great great grandfather!

Wait, you're playing either trilarians or nommo? Hell, you better declare war with him, or your citizens will be damn pissed at you! Saurians and Icthys start out at something like -140 relations to each other, which is just short of 'hate all of you'.

Hell, I'd be damn impressed if you could actually make a deal with him at all.

The fishies banished a faction of their own to aqua-domes on the surface which led to the coming of the Saurian species. No one was forced to live under the ocean.

How's this for an added stupidity...I demanded a peace treaty. Next turn the war ends. The following turn the Grendarl refuse my offer.

                        justjake73... read the background story

Fishies and Lizards hate one another - period.

If you're playing the fishes, expect all of the lizards to hate you. If you're playing hte lizards, expect all of the fishies to hate you.

Same goes with the Harvesters and EVERYONE else (including other Harvesters).

To a less extent the following groups also hate another (but not as much as fishies and lizards):

                        - Cybernetiks and Ethereans
                        - Geodics and Insects

The Humanoids and the Cybernetiks don't particularly get along either, but that can be overcome, as with some of the other minor dislikes.

Some races love each other, such as the fishies and a number of other races.

So they don't ALL hate you (unless you're a Harvester)

If nobody attacks anything for a number of turns the computer "declares peace" on behalf of both of you. Unfortuncately this hasn't been fully tied up with the enemy AI who promptly declare war again if the reason they hate you still exists. Expect a patch to do something to straighten this out.
