I have played 4 or 5 games however I have never finished any of them. I definately think MP is better than SP simply because I find the AI to be poor at best. however, the problem with MP is that it disconnects. It seems (read guess) that anytime any of the players involved leaves or alt+tabs the game crashes for everyone. Just about everygame has been over an hour in with things starting to pick up and wham "lost connection" comes up and your done. It is almost as fustrating as trying to figure the game out without a manual.

Anyway MP would be much better than SP if it let you finish (JMHO).

i will be trying again tonight if anyone is interested

Have you tried direct with an IP connection or through Gamespy? I tried to get on through Gamespy, w/o luck. May be because I am using AOL .

I am interested in playing MP and I can learn not to alt+tab

I would like to play MP too, but I need to figure out the game first. BUt I agree it is very easy to kick the computers but. I have the largest fleet of all the computer players combined in my game.

I have only played through Gamespy but it would appear that it uses the direct ip connection option once the game launches. I think it pulls that info from the host and basically sets the game up through direct ip connections to the host. As for AOL I havent seen any other AOLers complaining so i dont think it is a problem. There are definately issues with firewalls in hosting a game as I had to make adjustments to my firewall but that is really it, nothing special to join just to host. Did you use the Gamespy web console (downloaded from gamespy) to get into a game or just the ****ty interface that is in the multiplayer game option? I tried not using the gamespy web interface and had not luck getting into a game either at first.

Anyway I didnt get to play last night as my youngest was sick and wife needed some help but I will be playing tonight probably around 6:00 P.M. est. If you guys want to play let me know and I will host a game.

Jack believe me I am still learning too I just find it more challenging to learn against other people than the computer.

I managed to get through using the gamesspy interface that comes with the game. Talk about crap, you weren't kidding. Can't see the other people in the chat room (or even if there are any), can't tell which games are launched or not, screen doesn't refresh right, etc., etc.

That said, we did get a game launched, and it went about an hour before it crashed...think it gave a 'connection lost' notice. I was still connected to the net, so I must have just lost connection to the host.

Oh, well....another try another day....you launched throught the gamespy connection on the GS site? I have not tried that yet....

Yeah the problem is that the interface with the game shows the games that are set up through the gamespy web interface even though they dont have moo3 started. This means that the Moo3 interface cannot join them however you have no way of knowing that. If you donwload the GS software you can see everyone and chat and know when a game is about to launch ...etc Once it launches it loads MOO3 and puts you in that ****ty interface with the rest of your designated game. However, It works much better. But still crashes. I had three hours invested on Wednesday. I certainly was not winning but it still sucked to invest all that time and have it crash. Personally I think it is people dumping out of the game most of the time. People get a crappy starting position or are just trapped so they quit and it kills everyone (bug) for some reason. I could be wrong but I know the individual next to me in one short game was in a two planet dead end with my homebase right next to his. I had space an he did not. he would not have lasted long and next thing I new in the chat window it showed him disconnected and everyone else dropped automatically in succession.

I think I am going to play MOO3 this weekend if anyone wants to play me. The computer is too easy as you say, and I know most of the basic stuff now.

Usually though I let the computer handle the building of DEAs on planets though.

Have you guys try saving the game and reloading it??
Also I think that with the next patch, this will not be a big problem.

If a player drops, and the games crashes, can you reload the game from the last position w/o the dropped player? Does an AI take over or something? I can handle an occasional crash if the host sticks around to reload the game. Also, I guess it is a moot point if the games crashes when someone drops, but I hope the host computer can transfer if the host drops. Is the save game (autosave?) only on the host computer?

Want to try playing this evening, preferably with 2-4 players on a small map, just to figure things out (like reloading and such...).

The AI is suppose to take over for the player who disconnects which is needed as some games can certainly drag on. I dont know about the host dropping though. I have never tried to reload a game but i am definately up to trying it out. I have a broadband connection so if you guys want to try it all out I will be glad to host or join for that matter. As for building DEA's I have tried it multiple ways; building myself, building with dev plans and letting the comp control it. It seems as though the comp does a better job than I at this (sometimes). Dev plans are great but the AI changes the classification fo the planets and I get all screwed up. So, I take control when needed and let the AI have control alot. The games seems to move faster this way as I have been playing with a two or three minute time limit on turns to keep things interesting. It is nice to do 30 turns in an hour but you sometimes run out of time to do all that you want as the game goes on.

Like I said I will defintely be playing this evening so let me know if you want to try and hook up

I was wondering about how well MP MOO3 was working for anyone who tried. I guess the above posts answer that question. I thought the crash bugs were ironed out. It would be good to see an AAR from a completed game.
