Keyboard Shortcuts Stop Working

I cannot isolate the cause, but periodically all keyboard shortcuts will cease to work. This can go on for many turns - mouse works fine. Then at some point I will try keyboard commands again and they will be working again. Dunno what it is - anyone seen this? Any work around?

Several people have reported the same on IGMOO, less the spontaneous working again. It's agreed that it happens when you open up one of the tabs on the bottom of the screen with a planet (and I think one of the subsidiary panels thereon) open.
