  • Once in MOO3 - You can never leave...

I'm running WinXP on a 1.6GHz machine with 512MB Ram. I cannot alt-tab or ctrl-esc, or in any other way, jump to another program and come back to MOO3. It always freezes up. When I alt-tab back to it I get a heinous garbled visual and clicking or keyboard does nothing. Only way to exit is to unload from task manager. Bummer - and this is with nothing else running. So, if I wanted to be playing a CD or WinAmp in the background, I have to Save Game, Exit Game, add songs to my WinAmp playlist, Run Game, Load Game. Ugh.

I see a friend has come online in Instant Messenger or ICQ - I go to chat with them for a sec - ugh - crashed.

    Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Well, its not the first game I've played that has been resource demanding.

I've gotten in and out a few times, but just crashed: direct-x surface unavailable, or something to that point. annoying, esp. since I can play this for hours.

What version of Direct X do you have Oddible? Version 8.1 or version 9? If the former, then perhaps installing the latter might fix the problem?

Oddible I have XP PRO and had that problem. I now use the Windows key and it at least does not hang. I get a messed up screen, but running the cursor over it clears it. I have taken to bringing up the Empire screen, so I can clear teh close button and close it. This gets the page drawn and all is well. Annoying, but better than a freeze.

Well you know, in the readme it says explicitly that you cannot alt-tab out, so just don't expect to be able to do so...
