Ship building of obsolete designs?

Actually I have two questions
1- how is it htat a planet is building a Hawk Defense when I long ago marked it obsolete?
2- why do we not have an easy means to see what ships we have and where they are currently.
I can not recall all of the ships I made and where I last sent them.
Also I had an event saying a DD-2 was build, but when I go to deploy, it does not show up?

I should have mentioned that I found the Victory tab and it has a empire overview that seems to list the number of naval units you have, but I do not think it reflects all of them. It does not show me all of the colony ships in route either.

1. It probably started building the Hawk Defense before you marked the design obsolete.

2. There is. Go to Shipyard, and click on the Fleet tab.

No the planet did not exist at that time (ok I won't bet my life on it).

Ok what I was trying to do was to see what happened to some Destroyers I had built.
They can not be seen from the deploy screen. I find them in the fleet list, but 3 designs (5 ships) ar emarked obsolete and one is not. None of these 6 ships are available to be deployed nor are they in the reserves.
What happened. Can I get them into the action?
Does making a design obsolete cause the ships to be unavailable?
I have a hunch that if I ever figure out how to play this game, I may like it.

Did you forget to change the name after you fiddled with the design of the ship? If you did change it and started fiddling with the ship systems, the name would revert back to the original name.

No the ships show up with the new names. The I got caught with the old name after a change, I marked obsolete and never built.
This ship just are not in my reserves, but are sitting at the planet. IOW I can not do anything with them?

"Hawk Defence" ships are beginning system ships, they shouldn't be in the fleet deployment screen. Only starships are allowed in there. System ships are only built to defend planets, they cannot be moved around. If you don't want them there, just click it and scrap it.

To deobselete a design, go to the screen where you mark obselete ships, there's a "hide obselete" button. If unchecked, your obselete designs have a (obs) after it. Click the Hawk Defence ship and click the "Mark Obselete" button again. That would make them avaible to be created. By the way, the game accepts any ship with the same name. You can have a "Defence Base" destroyer, a "Defence Base" troop transport, etc.

Yes I was able to mark them as available doing that, but it did not make any difference as to what I could do with them.
So if they have system drives they are planetary bound? Say improved thrusters? If they have say Nulcear engines and are Starships they are deployable?
That is what I thought, I see now what I have done. I thought that I had make DD-1 and DE-1 as starships, but I had not, thanks for putting me on to the solution.
