  • What is the first thing you did in your first game?

My question is: what did you do first (first action) as ruler of your people?

I went through all the tabs and options available. Then, as dictator, my first action was to set oppression scrollbar to nine .
I would rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal labotamy

I also went through all the tabs and options. The pop-up help boxes got to be annoying but I only needed to see everything once before I got the hang of it. My first game was an easy medium cluster with 6 players. I allowed myself to play around and make mistakes to learn. Next game I got serious...

        Read the Master Notes.

        Read the Manual.

        Read the strategy guide.

        Got tired of reading.

        Ate lunch.

        Clicked the turn button.

First action, click the Do Not Show Master Notes box.

Second action, click on my ship and sent it to the next world. It got there and I saw some pretty planets.

Third action, sent the Task Force (now that I knew what it was called) to teh next system.

Fourth action, wait 7 turns for it to arrive.

Fifth action, COmbat Schedulr comes up, my 2 scouts and 1 colony ship are facing something called a Guardian. Hmmm....that doesn't sound too bad, prolly defensive in nature, maybe I can sneak by him. So I enter combat.

Sixth action, move my ships a little and see about 20 laser beams head my way and smash my boys.

Seventh action, pull up the encylopedia and manual and find out what the heck just killed me.

Eighth action, chuckle at my foolishness and marvel at the bad luck in starting where I did in my first game ever.

First action : listen to the music for half an hour looking at all the "Master's Notes" I love this music. Try sitting on the Senate screen for about 10mins. The music gets really MAD !

Read the manual, the readme and the master notes.

Made tests to figure out where all the numbers in the planetary screens come from, what they mean and how they are generated.

              Succeeded mostly in this.

Went to forum to get more info.

Saw that nearly everyone else seems to know even less.

Checked the spreadsheets in the game for more info.

I got it three days ago and I still have to play more than a few turns. But I like it.

Now that I have figured out everything that I can with the limited info available, I'll play a real game in a small galaxy.

                That is hilarious!

I read the background story and the "Guardian" is one hell of a tough SOB that is supposed to stand guard to some old original Orion planet (?) or something like that.

Fact is if I had been you and a message like that had have come up in my sitrep I would have prolly had a half heart attack.

"maybe I can sneak by him" LOL

....sneak buy him... Great. I love it.

In my first game I just played around for an hour doing my best to get killed and figuring out the interface. After not having a single diplomatic contact after exploring 20+ systems, I just restarted, didn't like my position, and then hit quickgame to get a 3rd game started. Played that one til 3am and am now a zombie here at work reading poly and trying to look productive for the boss.

                    hum... same here.

this game will probably ruin my social life... again!

I was starting to recover after I stopped playing Civ but now I back to square one.

Read the manual and strategy guide. I'm not foolish enough to load the software and start a game on an evening when I have work the next morning.

(Tonight, OTOH, I will start playing.)

Scrapped the Ai's build queue on my homeworld and threw in a pair of system colony ships, then went looking for juicy space rocks. Also maxed energy out in research tab

Well, Mike... I'll tell you what I did the first time I played on my copy.

After turning off the helper windows, I sent the fleets moving, and I played around with my build queue a little, lining up my production for a few more colony ships.

And that was the beginning of the New Psilon Empire. lol

                              1. Read Manual

                              2. Played an EASY on a SMALL map, with the Klacktons (my boys from previous MOOs)

                              3. Looked at all the tabs, realized i was in trouble. lol

                              4. Sent out scout ships

                              5. Found the Raas in the system next to me. (Impressed by race animations)

                              6. Colonized a few planets

                              7. Realized it was 3 in the morning and i had school the next day. Went to bed and had sweet dreams of intersteller conquest.
