  • MOO3 keeps pausing!?!?!!?

Just installed the game, including putting the music on the hard drive in the correct directory!.
Fired the game up and........ bugger! the game keeps pausing all the time
It seems to lock up for 10 or 20 seconds then run ok for 30 seconds then do the same again!!!
    Anyone else have this problem.
I have well above the specs.

I have the same problem. Although the readme file says where to copy the music directory it seems it is still reading it from the cd.
And....oh yes i had a problem with the blinking cursor, so i had to switch it to system(windows)cursor. MF!

Metalking, Put the music folder from the CD into the:

          GameDataSets\Classic_01\GameAssets\Common

folder in the MOO3 folder on your HD.

Although this did not cure the game pausing problem for me.

What is your sound card and video card? You have the latest version of directX installed?

It sounds similiar to a problem I had in Robinhood. Never did spend much time figuring out why it happened in that game but it seemed to somehow be related to a common problem I have with my audio and games running with directx8.1 - replacing my soundcard didn't fix this, so I'm at a loss to what the actual cause is.

But anyways, with the latest directX installed run DxDiag (C:\Program Files\DirectX\Setup) click the sound tab and lower the hardware acceleration to the second from the left and see if that solves your problem. If not, try turning it off all the way. Also check under all the tabs to see if it is reporting any errors.

If that doesn't solve it, it probably isn't related to the problems that I have.

Is sound locking too? Have you tried turning it off? What kind of CDROM are you running and what's its speed? Can you check you Task Manager and see if anything is running that's eating resources, like Seti@Home? I'm not having the problem myself (yet, I'm on the road and can't until Saturday) but if you can check and post these things maybe something will stand out or someone else can take the info and run with it.

I occassionally have that pausing - it happens during CD-ROM access.

                  Music never pauses!
                  I am running DX9.
As i said the game pauses all the time, about every 20-30 seconds. You can move the mouse cursor around but you can't click on anything, then it will start working again. I have tried it with the system as well as the game cursor, I have all the music loaded into the correct music folder in the MOO3 folder on the HD.
Also the rotate and zoom commands don't work on my mouse. The mouse works in all other apps i am running.

                  HELP!!!!!!!

Did you try lowering the hardware acceleration?

is the music playing from the cd still? because if it is your computer probably just can't read fast enough to keep up with the game
