  • How do I retro fit my old ships with new technology?

    ???

You can't refit your old ships into new ones. You need to build new ships to use the new technology. This isn;t bad since you get back half the materials used in the contruction of the old ships.

You don't. You mark them as obsolete and build new ships.

I don't like it myself - I think Quicksilver is going to work on that in the patch (I hope, anyway.)

On the IGMOO forums, Alexfrog suggested that the reason refitting was left out was so that you couldn't engage an enemy fleet, ascertain it's weaknesses, then easily refit to exploit those weaknesses. By dragging the process out a player can't just quickly upgrade to what's needed to take out their foes.

Haven't played yet, so I can't confirm how logical this assessment is, but it sounds reasonable.

Well, it's often more expensive to refit ships than build new ones. In order to refit, you could make it:

          a) you must disband a fleet (there's a 5 turn delay when you disband a task force)

          b) the components you upgrade cost 150% normal cost.

          c) you can not CHANGE the TYPE of module. (ie. you can't switch from a particle to a plasma, mass or beam.)
