  • Task forces

This is another real fun part of the game, by the way... you have to have the right balance of long attack, short attack, point defense and other types of ships to successfully assault a planet. It's so fun having to design your force.

Even more fun is designing your ground assault task force. Not only do you have to have the right balance of ships (often, you'll want escort ships for the troop ships), but also designing the right ground assault forces, since you have support units like Psy Ops and Magazines who influence the ground combat.

Trust me - this is one area the game can't "play for you".

    Ya thanks. We know already.

Please stop trying to desperately defend the game. We know you like it. We know you don't like Tom Chick's review of it.

Your not that important, get over it.

      Appreciate It

Well I for one appreciate these tidbits Jonah. Anything I can learn now is something i won't have to learn 3 days from now.

Yes, drsparnum - unlike certain people, you admit that since you don't own the game, you are still curious about various aspects of the game. It's called "not having a massive ego."

I think this is good news too. For me there were 3 really fun parts of MOO2. Trading (even with its problems), designing ships, and espionage.

The reviews seem to indicate that trading is better and espionage is even more effective so this was good news to me. However, no one seems to have really liked ship design. I was thinking, well 2/3 ain't bad (unintentional Meatloaf quote).

Hopefully now, the fun of ship design has been replaced by the fun of task force design.

It isn't ship design - it's what you DO with the ships after you've built them.

I actually prefered designing the ships to the fights myself. Maybe I am weird.

(However I realize the irony that if I knew I would never use the ships in combat then designing them would be pointless so don't bother pointing that out.)

I also like the updates, feeds my growing moo hunger
can u tell me a little more about ground combat

can u see your units fighting?
do u fight a big battle for the whole planet or do u fight for sectors
                  and is there air support?

if this has all been answered b4 i apologise and can point me in the right direction =)

                  thanks

I don't think someone needs to "have a massive ego" to take exception to your behavior in response to the negative review in question.

Nonetheless, I do very much appreciate the information you are providing on the game, thank you

Actually its called being overzealous in defending the game from one single review.

Once I knew my ships could kick butt designing even better ones was pretty pointless but I still enjoyed it nonetheless. The only question makr I have over it in MoO3 is that without the gadgets its just a case of shoving in the maximum quantity of the weapons suited to its role. Thats no fun since there is no trade offs to be made between raw firepower and special tricks.
To doubt everything or to believe everything are two equally convenient solutions; both dispense with the necessity of reflection.

No. There is a certain amount of rock/paper/scissors in the game. In certain circumstances, if you have, say, a large fleet with only particle beams, you'll be defeated by a smaller fleet if they have a huge amount of Shield defense. You need mass drivers (which ignore Shield) and other sorts of weapons.

Plus, you need a variety of Long Range Attack ships (to soften up defenses), Short Range Attack ships (which can protect the Long Rang and come in close to ships to damage them), Point Defense, Indirect Fire (missile ships), and so forth.

I love the tiny Interceptors, by the way. It's fun to see little tiny ships harrassing the enemy.
