  • Rotating Planet Question

I'm curious; when people select the planet and it rotates slowly (which looks very cool, mind you) and you select building que's, etc. Does it show small teeny-tiny houses and building as the planet rotates in the seperate quadrants of the planet the more your population increases and the more stuff you build on the planet? S

So for example if you build some chemical factory in an industrial DEA/quadrant does it show a teeny-tiny building (or several buildings)? Could someone elaborate in lots of detail on this for me, please and thanks .

lol, no no no. I like all types of games but it's the little things that entice me. I GOTSTA know what it looks like while you are building things on your planet. I'm pretty sure that after a planetary bombing the craters and the such from the bombs stay on the planet. I've only seen a few screenshots, but was hoping for some clarity from a beta tester or something.

You want lights on the night-side of the planet, is that it?

            To answer your question:

            No.

            Why?

They originally had it partially done, but as your planet grew, all the planets started looking like a big boring gray thing. So, they decided to just have a circle around the planet representing how built up it is, as it looked much better, and was more informative.

Remember though, you're talking about a planet viewed from orbit. That's a long way up.

Well the more developed the planet gets the more cities you can see on it. Eventually they join up into a corusant type sprawl. But you can't make out seperate buildings.

Ah, that's cool too. As long as SOME change occurs while I'm populating a planet (or destroying one). Thanks, man.

I thought that was what was cut? I believe there is nothing now except a little circle around the planet that indicates..something..

You'd be right roland. It has been cut.. and I'm actually happy, because it was supposed to have been really hard to distinguish if a planet was all built up. It also looks more cool with all the variation.. IMO.

Oooookay, sooo the showing of the populating increasing on the planet visually is .. out?

Not entirely. When you have a small picture of a colony, like when you're choosing from a menu, the planet has a ring around it, where the amount the ring is gray represents how developed it is. There are other ways to find out too, but not having actually played the game, I don't know any specifics. But, as I said, it looks good the way it is, and probably better when you have the seperate layers of clouds, the slow spin of the planet, all the movement screenies don't show.

Perhaps they could have kept both the circle around the planet & the graphical representation. Variation is nice but most big cities look the same, and I think urban planets would too.

Also I think that there should`ve been some irreversable climate change with this hyper urban sprawl. No more fields, all food grown in bio domes and whatnot.. no more natural weather systems.. change indeed. :P

Maybe, but wouldn't both be redundant? And for any more features, this game is supposed to be amazing, but with a vertical learning curve. I think features like that would shove the game well into what the Elephant was. Can you imagine a game needing a 1,200 page manual? Good, until you try to play it.

Life has no manual, but we play it every day and learn the rules as we go.

Damn if I can find the re-start button, though...
