  • Has anyone seen this?

    http://www.gamestop.com/product.asp?...46245463823112(null)

I only glanced through (didn't want to spoil anything for myself). Is this the entire back story of the game? Has anyone seen this listed anywhere else? It seems odd for a reseller's website to go this in detail...

I found the whole article very uninspired and uninteresting though I'm glad this retailer is not ashamed to show their unabashed love for the game.

Given all the great science fiction out there (and writers needing work) couldn't they (Infrogrames) have tossed a grand or two at an actual author to write something decent?

I think the story is really good - you have to understand that it's main function isn't to be entertaining as a work of science fiction, but to link the three Master of Orion games into a single timeline. The fiction is meant to explain how the situation at the beginning of MOO was created, and how the universe moved from there to MOO2, and then from there to MOO3...

The story is still quite entertaining IMO, although it does have a bit of a dodgy plot, due to the attempt to work MOO 1&2 into a plot they weren't originally designed for...

The 'backstory' that they arre using is about 9-12 months out of date. The only current version of the backstory is in the manual.
The race bible hasn't been released in any form.

The backstory you read was meant as an internal-only reference document. It was someone's brilliant idea to release it publically. Not mine.

            Rantz,

Any chance that the Race Bible WILL be released at some point? Just for kicks?

It's just background fiction. It's ok to read, it doesn’t give anything away.

But like Rantzie just said, its not the real backstory, just something that got pushed out the door when someone had a brilliant idea We'll have to wait for the real back story, which probably say something about the Harvesters ? And the Antarian "X"'s ? ? We wait with baited breath...

The draft backstory was one of the things that really got me interested in MOO3 years ago. IMO it was a great idea to release it. Along with the data dumps it was the best part of QS PR.

The revised backstory, hinted at in Dan's previews seems good too. It seems a bit more simplified. I suppose that's because not many customers are going to be bothered to read a huge epic just to find out what the game's about!

Unfortunately you get idiots who want a mile for every inch you give them. Or people who can't understand the difference between brainstorms, ideas, drafts and finished products.

I hope Rantz doesn't get too disillusioned by the whiners.

The released backstory was interesting but it had plot holes you could pilot your galaxy crushing fleet of doomstars through. I'll be interested to see what makes it into the final version.
To doubt everything or to believe everything are two equally convenient solutions; both dispense with the necessity of reflection.
