Would be sorta cool to be able to mod the game for something like that. Doubt it would be easy, though.

You mean mod to make the plants playable? I suppose it could be done if you didn't mind using another races diplomacy art etc. An easier way would be to just find a planet full of them in game and let them spread throughout your empire.
