  • Assassinated?!! SLAIN?!!

This seems like a bug to me(MOO 1), not sure. While I'm playing the game, I've had 3 instances where one of those ship quizzes will come up, I'll answer them, and then the next thing; GNN news says that I've been assassinated or slain and that my last colony has fallen. GAME OVER. WTF?!! And there are no enemy ships in any of my territories, colonies(and I had plenty of them) when this happens. Is this a bug or something? How can I just lose the game like that when there were no apparent threats around?

It is copy protection. You got the question wrong, so the game kills you off.

Either crack the game, or answer the questions correctly.
There is a sheet with all the ship names attached to one of the threads in this forum...
I'm building a wagon! On some other part of the internets, obviously (but not that other site).

I think it is also on Sullivan's website.

Here is a novel thought, the answers are in the manual. Oh, I forgot you would have to have bought the game.
Anyway it has been posted at least twice, once by me.

          Wow, a Moo-Newbie, actually!
In the first place I could do it without anything.
Just save your game frequently. The copy protection is not bound to a special turn # so it will always be at a random time. Try to remember when you answered right.

I bought Moo 2 but when Moo 1 came out I still was a kid and got it from a friend who bought it. Later I also got the manual from him to draw the ships on a sheet of paper. I really wish I still had it, not because I don't remember the ships, but because it was done with much love, and even colored!

Unfortunately a lot of re-released games have pdf manuals and, in some cases, the alt-tab to access them mid-game just doesn't work.
I do have the darned thing in its original form but find it irritating to have to hunt it down right in the middle of a fight, so I generally just take a guess and hope one of my 3 chances is one of the ships I know.

I have pdf and real manuals, but I rarely miss more than one guess. If is goes to the third, I will looked it (usually).

They have republished MoO on CD? I still have my 5 1/4" diskettes somewhere. After awhile you get to remember all the ships and their names.

I have MoO on cd, along with XCom UFO. And I bought this years ago.

UR, I burned the diskettes to a CD and that is what I use, even though I have a CD version as well. It seems the CD version does not always run with out the CD. I also applied the patch to the diskette before I burned it. My current machine does not have 3.5 disk.
Anyway I have run into problems with diskettes not be readable in some macines.

I think I may have exactly the same version (Xcom -> UFO: Enemy Unknown). Does your install from cd work properly for Moo by any chance?
I always had to copy the whole directory to my hard drive first and run it from there instead.

From memory, I had to copy the whole directory too.

ok question; I downloaded Moo from the web (several sources). All of the ones I have downloaded have had the quiz/copyright deal on it. I have patched them all to 1.3. Do any of you know of a good reliable site that would have the FULL game with no copyright protection on it for download? From what I remember the game IS abandonware right? Just trying to get to the point where I don't have to deal with the lame quiz during an incredible game...I love this freakin' game! Thanks guys.

Why? Just find the chart - it's much easier to do the chart than to "crack" the game.
