  • I got it. I got it. The strat guide that is hehe

Well I went out and got it. Sorry forgot the name but someone said its more of a preview and they are right.

It is way better than Moo2 strat guide. That one sucked big time, not helpfull at all, but below Moo1. I believe nothing can compare to Moo1 strat guide because that is what it is. It had charts and tips and even the kitchen sink.

I just briefed through Moo3 strat guide and it does have a few tips and charts for tech and what not.

Possible spoiler so don't read if you don't want to know and ruin the game.

One funny (well not funny but a figure of speach) is that the power house races in the previous Moo serious are now the weakest ones, or so the strat guide says

Take a guess who they could be.

All I know is that I can't wait for the game to come out, it is complicated at first but should be easily to master.

PS the biggest baddest ship should not win anymore in space combat and stratagy should finaly take over.

what's the fun in using the strategy guide right from the start? experiment a little first and have some fun before you try and perfect your game

Alan made the best strat guide of all time for Moo1 and I was so hoping he would have been in on this one. They did no have it EB here.
Some people just like to look at all the stats and data. I doubt that it will have any impact on the play of the game.

Like I said better than Moo2 but not as good as Moo1. I can use it as a manual so once I get the game I don't have to learn how so and so works and what to do with this. I hate the experimental part and learning of a game so I can jump right in while not playing beginer level.

I don't have much time to play so I want to start playing for "Real", not practinging if you know what I mean. It's not a bad thing but when you don't have much time to play since I work long hours I want the game to count for me, and not a learning experiance, if this makes sense.

I don't care what they call it, it's not a "Strategy Guide" unless it is written after the game is finished and the writers have had time to try out different strategies.

It is like this for every game. In fact, I'd say that they are more like manuals nowadays since what comes with the game is usually insufficient. Did anyone ever get a tech poster for Civ 3? I know I didn't.

It's a pretty good scam -- charge separately for the game *and* the manual, as long as you call it a "strategy guide"

You are right Ray K. Almost all Strat guides are not glorified manuals.

But at least they are some good charts in the Moo3 strat guide that I will be using. I know it will be posted on the net sometime soon but I like to have my own copy so when I am playing the game I dont have to go to the net and look around.

Don't get me wrong... I'm not criticizing anyone who buys them. You want to play the game and, let's face it, most manuals are extremely lame.

I am a long-time 4X gamer from the days of the original Civ and MoO.

I cannot express how infuriating it was to buy Civ3 on reputation alone and get stuck with that piece of crap they called a tech poster. It was *literally* nothing more than 4 screen shots shrunk down to fit on a foldout. You couldn't even read half the text because it was too blurry!

When I found out that they were going to charge separately for the editor that was promised with the game, I swore off Firaxis completely.

I hope that Moo3 represents the genre a little better.

Well, am a lurker. But since this hasn't been assured to you yet. I'm posting.

Supposedly the Moo3 Manual is 200+ pages. I think even bigger than the strat guide from what I've read on this and on the official forums.

                  ???

Editor is in the game, and is very much improved in last 1.29f patch.

How much time between the release of the game and the release of that patch?

When I heard that the editor would be in PTW for $30, I moved onto other things.

If they've actually got a functional editor in the original game now, then kudos to Firaxis.

Not of importance. It was FREE in the patch.
Free. No need for extra money.

Good, free and fast don't MIX together.

By the way, editor is more improved from 1.21f to 1.29f (ability to make real scenarios), then from 1.29 to PtW.

PtW just gives some more tweaking and fixing.
Some free units for sceanrios and some other things.

So you don't need 30$ to use working editor.

I would end up figuring how to modify the game before i really start playing the game, like i did with civ3, lol

Before i played a real game with Civ3, i created my own custom civ. lol
