  • Has this ever happened to anyone else?

I just started playing moo2 again (taking a break from civ3). I'm playing with the 1.31 patch (the last one).

I started up a game in a small galaxy with 4 other races. It ended up being humans (me, custom: subt, tele, democ, low G, money penalty) vs alkari, mrrshan, elerians, and silicoids.

I did a pre-warp start, but had a nice system, so by the time I could build a colony ship I had 4 planets in just my home system.

The alkari had just their homeworld, the elerians just their homeworld, and the mrrshan had 2 systems. The silicoid had managed to grab 4 systems.

I colonize 1 more system and start preparing for a war with the mrshann who were closest.

Then the weird thing happens that id never seen before. Out of the blue, the Silicoid surrender to me. They were on the other side of the galaxy and had the most planets and the biggest fleet which they had just used to pound the mrshan's 2nd system. The next turn the galactic council met and I was easily able to elect myself ruler with 10 out of 12 votes. The time before when it had met, I just had 6 out of 12.

So the question is, has anyone else had an ai just suddenly surrender when winning for no apparent reason? It was funny, but sort of ended what looked like it'd be a semi-decent game.

NO. In fact, I do not recall a race surrendering to me in any level with any patch or unpatched version. Prior to 1.3 and 1.31 they would give away systems very easily. I have been playing at impossible level most of this year so not much is giving, especially when I am repulsive.

I've never had a surrender either. Is it something you can demand? I don't remember anything other than accidentally hitting the surrender option once and surrendering to somebody else.

You can demand they surrender a system or tech, but not surrendering the game. You can only surrender yourself. You can often see surrenders of the AI to another AI in unpatched games and at the lowest setting, but as I said, it has never happened to me.

I have seen computer players surrender to each other but never to me.

          Yet another bug it seems.

Hmm the AI surrenders sometimes to you but only when you colonized about the whole map while they only have one or two planets. They often surrender to a race they are at war with or to the most advanced.

I can not tell you how many hundreds of games if Moo2 I have played and at every level and have never had anyone surrender to me. Since 1.31 patch, I do not even recall seeing it surrender to another AI, something I have seen in the unpatch and earlier patched version. Those surrenders were done early in the game.

Oh and to clarify, I probally was the technology leader. I would of been the weakest from a fleet perspective (I had one scout). I was right in the middle in terms of # of planets, but may of been in the lead by population because I was using the subt. trait and had 4 good planets in my home system.

I was not at war with the silicoid and actually couldnt of attacked any of their worlds if I had wanted to due to distance.

Nah it was on average difficulty, it was my first game after a long break from moo, so I went with something designed to be fast and easy.

Small universe, 5 races (counting me), average galaxy age, average difficulty, custumized human race.

Cool, I often play on a small uni in Moo1 to get in a quick gme at the hard level. In Moo2 I tend to stick with a bigger uni.
