yes it will cost you at times, but by the time I use it, it does not mater to me if I lose a ship or two as I am producing more than I need. It saves work in those my scores against your bunch battles. Mostly I start those fights off in tac and them go auto when I have dropped the main threats.

But that is what makes the AI sooo bad in Se4. They cannot do tactical worth a damn. I make missle frigates there as well and just stay out of range of their beam weapons and usually do not lose any ships to the comp losing them all.

Are you saying that the no tact in Moo is better (via ai)?

No doubt, you can not afford to let SE4 do any battles for you unless you are not concerned about the out come. It is just plain awful. I have seen it lose battles, that I win without a loss of any ships, especially against planets. It gets up close to those planetary defenses and slugs it out, when you can drop them all with out getting in range as they are stationary.
I can not think of any games that can be counted on to battle properly, if they could, I suspect no one would like them.

ship on ship equal size fleet best to worse IMO
Stars (using best options such as best range)
        Moo2
        Moo
        Se4

Stars lets you set up some useful things such as Chicken for ships you would rather not lose. Yes I know, you really have no choice as it has no tactical combat anyway.

Have you found any difference in Se4 when using the tatics options. Like maximum range, or don't get hurt?

In a word, nope. auto combat is poor. I also wish they had not changed the way we do research. I liked being able to spread it out anyway I wanted.

Is your copy se4 or se4gold?

The only thing I want to say is that it is more challenging...
But here's one thing about Moo2 I was really worried to see when playing today: The Elerians had a Battleship in the Orbit of one of my planets and did not Mindcontrol it... They sent in 3 Transports instead of but before these arrived I had destroyed their Battleship with mine...

It is now SE4 Gold, I upgraded when they had the preorder deal and got the rebate, so it was very cheap.

I am not sure about the mind control function as I have only used it once, but do they not have to defeat the planetary defences before the control kicks in? Come to think of it, what happens if you send transports and they have some defences? Does it work like MOO, where some can get past the defence and attack? I don' recall using that tactic in Moo2.

This puts me to thinking about the repair function. I thought you get total repair when "docked"at a base. It seems to me that repair is done even when at a hostile planet. In Stars, you can have tankers in your fleet to speed up repair when not "docked". It is better IMO, since the repairs are slow and make sense.

                      Vmxa1,

Did you ever have a C64 or AppleII and play either Imperium Galactum or (the original) Reach for the Stars??

Anyway, I thought that this idea for repair and maintenance was excellent.

The elerians don't use their telephatic ability to conquer planets. Must be they space bimbos are too busy trying out the adamantium bras...

No, neither one. I tried IG on the PC and could not get it to run under Windows. IG2 I played one mission. I only tried the PC demo for Reach for the Stars, it is still selling for first run prices, no way. SE3/4 have a good repair scheme too. You need to put them into a dry dock and replace damaged items and pay for it. I tend to send a repair ship with any fleet. It is funny that I really like SE3 and SE4 has better graphic and some imrvements, but I find it harder to get into new games. I guess I just find it painful to have to go through the log when it is large. I had asked them to fix it and they said they would, but never did. I though a grey out of any item you did a goto from could be done, if they can't mark the spot you were at the time.

I thought SE4 was WAY to much MM to be anywhere close to enjoyable. "Fuel clerk in space." Feh.

Don't go close to RFTS. Was stillborn, and the patches made it worse still.

Moom, I can't argue with what you say about either of those games.

Here's why Tactical Combat off is much harder:

I was Meklar and attacked a Psilon Fleet orbiting one of my Systems.

                                I had 11 Doom-Stars and 22 Titans.
                                They had 9 Doom-Stars, 9 Titans, 4 Battleships and 2 Cruisers.

                                I lost 11 Doom-Stars and 22 Titans.
                                They lost nothing.

The only explanation I have is that they had Particle Beam and pierced through my Shields...
(the Autoequipper did not use the Damper Field that I had demanded and gotten from the Psilons)...

Anyway... with Tactical Combat on noone would ever have such casualities!
