  • MoO 1 On Xp

I cant get MoO to run on my xp. I did everything described in that link and it still doesnt work ( link: http://www.jonsullivan.com/misc/moo_xp.htm) Every Time I try to start it with normal double click a black windows pops up and closes shortly after that. If I try to make it run in Dos it says 1024 memory is needed, but I already set memory to 1024. help me plz

Did you try to enable EMS to at least 1024 in the properties? Some systems will not emulate EMS, but I have had several XP systems and all ran Moo1 just fine. I played yesterday. Here is a text for consideration:

Do you get an error msg, but can not see it has it flashes by?

Right click on the exe and select properties and then Program tab. Clear the close on exit box. This will allow the dos window to remain open so you can see the msg.

    Was it a memory issue?

Go to the exe properties select Mem tab. Set the three drop downs to the highest values. Check protected and use HMA boxes.

    Does the game require EMS?

If so you should create copies of the Config.Nt and Autoexec.NT files and put them in the directory of that game.
Edit the Config.NT file and check the box for compatible timer. I have not need the autoexec so far, so change the Config filename to point to the new one you are creating. In this file add EMM=RAM after dos=high statement. This will force emulation of EMS memory.
Check the properties for the icon (pif) and go to the memory tab to see if EM has a value of at least 1024.
Other items may require changs to Config or even Autoexec and will likely be defined in the install doc for that game, I have not required any so far and all of my games are runningat this time, but I may buy others later.

It could be that you need to go to the compat tab and select run in compat mode for Win95. A game that requires 256 colors may need that box checked.
Misc tab you should look at the Exclusive mode for the mouse. Resolution 640 may be required for some.

Windows XP has a tool that can be downloaded to test various setting for desperate situations.

ok it shows an error Configure Hardware bla, but I configured it too : Soundblaster Adress: 220, 280 (tried both)
Soundblaster again: adress 220 5 1 and Mouse.
I tried to set it without sound, but when I start it just shows a black screen without errors. Sry If this sounds a bit confused :O

Sound needs Digital 220 IRQ 5 DMA 1 use original SB regardless of what you have.

Reconfigure with no sound for either until you get it working. The close on exit prevents seeing any msgs. If your motherboard will not emulate EMS, then you will have to get DOSBOX. It is a free tool.

I run my desktop at 1024, but do not use true 32 bit color as too many games fail with it. Be sure to have the full version of the game and patched to 1.3. I have heard of issue with some of the downloaded version.

I could never get MOO1 to run on my XP until I installed DosBox.

It's involved, but it worked great!
