  • Races and the Tech's they love

I would like to propose the idea that certain techs are better for certain race picks. Yes, before you all start saying "this guy is crazy", lets talk about what techs you chose for races.

"Do you get Deutrium or Tritanium? AutoFac or Heavy Armor? Battle Scanners or Tachyon Communications? Merculite Missiles or Pollution Processors? Computers or Research lab/SuperComp? Soil enrichment or Cloning"

Some techs are not as vital to certain races. For example, if you picked a +50 to ship attack, getting battle computers isn't as necessary, or you can pick them, and not worry about cybertronic computers. It stands to reason that some race picks can replace more competing tech than other picks.

Unification is such a pick. Has anyone else noticed that for Heavy gravity, you get -50% production, but that Uni gives a bonus equal to the loss by gravity? Same with captured population. Although Uni assimilate the slowest, the captured population produce as much food and mineral as if they were non-captured with 0 morale.

I guess my question to the forum is "What techs are generally necessary?" Please respond with the race that you are assuming needs the techs, including its negative picks. If you have time, please include the negative picks with and without repulsive.

I would like to propose the idea that certain techs are better for certain race picks.

The strength of a tech depends on its marginal utility. And this utility depends on galaxy size, neighborhood (under attack or not, wormholes near hw) and of course of ur race picks. Thats no new insight.

Do you get Deutrium or Tritanium?...Merculite Missiles or Pollution Processors?
Depends mainly on the other both factors (gal size, neighborhood). Uni Tolerant races prefer generally trit, irri combination for an earlier attack compared to uni aqua races. Uni Aqua prefers Deut-Merc-Athmos-Zort if it has nice wet planets for teching fast.
Merc is absolutely necessary against crea. If u know opponent arent crea and u attack before zort-level the poll proc is better decision.

AutoFac or Heavy Armor? Battle Scanners or Tachyon Communications?....Computers or Research lab/SuperComp?

There is no choice against humans here. If u have free-lunch AI on the map u can try hv arm or tachyon. But if u r under strong attack (mebbe warlord race)...posicomp can be chosen....if u see some chance to steal supercomp. Otherwise very bad choice.

    Soil enrichment or Cloning
This depends mainly on ur best food planet. (and therefore mainly on ur race.) if u have 4food per farmer cloning might be good decision for the long run (marginal utility of soil is low in this case). If there is some long run, ie no wh in neighborhood.

    "What techs are generally necessary?"
Of course u can try to blitz without teching at all. But if u waste time on teching, following techs are absolutely necessary against humans:
rlabs, autofacts, battlepods, battlescanner (when u wanna use beams otherwise skip this path at all).

Thanks for the tech advice. I was feeling a little lost in which competing techs are better than others.

How does a uni-tol +p LHW race support a fleet? I assume it is by taxes and by population, until they get subspace (if the game lasts that long). If that is the case, why isn't a warlord race any good? What negatives are usually chosen for a uni-tol +p race?

Yes. And the race can hide its ships in the production queue. (refit)

If that is the case, why isn't a warlord race any good?

Noone said that (fe uni aqua warlord is quite popular) and I respect your thoughts. In another thread I already pointed out that it is a question of timing. And most warlords try to attack when the opponents research supercomps....(i dont know your exact attack strategy here....timeline i mean)
And many players have the opinion....that Uni Aqua Warlord...has better tech and better chances when it HAS to attack. (In the long run warlord is dead.) (mebbe u can prove them wrong)

What negatives are usually chosen for a uni-tol +p race? -spy rep or -gc -sd rep

I can feel your motivation to defend your favored strategy. (FE the hotseat test.) Why dont u try Multiplayer on kali? Your race is surely good enuff to win some games there.....(4ways with nice planets and nice whs in neighborhood can help your race a lot.)

Why dont u try it? Its surely more fun than hotseat-tests or this discussion here...

...I guess it is MUCH easier to find your answer on the main map....

Yes, I bet after playing all week at Kali, I might win one game. That is if I don't get mad when someone uses an empty frigate with augmented engines to defend a planet.

Sometime soon I should be getting internet at home. Right now I must use the computers at my university.

As for timeline, I find the best time (for me) to attack is after getting rlabs, autofact, battlescanners, spaceacademy, and tritanium armor, then using autofire continous laser cannons (which do well against nukes) (and perhaps AP, if they don't use reinforced hulls), then researching mass drivers, Inertial stabalizers then class III shields, and switching to autofire mass drivers. I might be attacking too early. But I think you are absolutely right that I should play online, if I really want to add to the discussion.

imho empty ff-tactics is only useful against missile-hit and run tactics.....and....the majority of kali players think...it is a justified countermeasure against such tactics...

But I think you are absolutely right that I should play online, if I really want to add to the discussion.

I hope...u have ur flatrate soon.....
