  • How do you deploy ground troops?

I'm slowing figuring the game out but they certainly don't make it easy. The documentation/Encyclopedia are atrocious! And I can't seem to figure out how to get ground troops on my planets.

Hmm, I think you just deploy them to each planet from the military screen, I have never had to do that, and remember, that planets pay expenses for troops, not the empire, so its generally not wise to keep troops on planets.

Ah crud - does not sound good. As a potential new buyer soon, can you fill me in on your experiences to date with the manual (in whatever form it comes) and learning the game?

The thing I dislike about that is you can't choose how many transports to unload. You either have to drop all of them or in bunches of about a quarter of the total at a time. It would also be nice to be able to pick them back up again and move on to other planets turn after turn.

I think he't talking about deploying troops on your OWN planets. (but you knew that, right? ). A: In the military screen, and this is not very bad, just hard to find....

Vince, you're right. That invasion concept sucks big time. I dont like the whole idea of building a ship on planet X and launching in on planet Y (halfway across the galaxy) a turn later.

Well yes and no. I figured out how to do it with my own planets, I need a Mobilization Centre in place. But I had one battle where I had cleared the system of enemy ships and had a contingent of Marines on a transport, but I never got a chance to land them and take over the planet. There was nothing preventing me far as I could tell.

I think that having much planets with troops on them slows the game a lot in the later stages. I usually dismiss the troops that remain on the conquered planets too ...

May as well once the planets are in the rear areas.

                  I see your problem...
Remember that for any battles, the max of Task forces you can use is 10. So if you have, say, 11 Task Forces, among which only one is a troop task force, the game may always select the other 10 task forces and you'll never be able to land your troops. So just send one of them away in order to have only 10 task forces in that system.

I remember in one game it appeared that the task force limit didn't apply to the defender. I hope I'm wrong.

Perhaps you cannot deploy troops, because there are still some Planetary defences Surviving.. you need to bomb these i think and then you can land troops. Just a guess, maybe i'm thinking of Moo2. Its useful to bomb a planet anyhow, to reduce the troops .. though if too much population or structures are destroyed its your loss, though if u take out their millitary structures its easier to take them over i believe (ie. barracks) Use 2 or 3 special forces units.. psi or commando troops or those ones that reduce enemy psi troops.
If you cannot bomb the planet from the special bombard screen with the planet spinning in the top left, then try an attack on the planet again.. you may have to attack the planet to remove its defences.. beams, missiles , fighters, orbitals etc.

I don't understand all of this ground millitary experience and regiment size business.. If only quiksilver could give us their development notes to help us know all the gamplay basics.

Keep perservering, Moo3 can be a nice challenge.
