I go for boarding shuttles and try to capture the antaran ships early on. It can be pretty nice to get their dampers and particle beams early on.

“It is no use trying to 'see through' first principles. If you see through everything, then everything is transparent. But a wholly transparent world is an invisible world. To 'see through' all things is the same as not to see.”

I suppose it can't hurt, but I cannot afford to use ship turns to sit arounding waiting for Anties to show up and hope I can capture one.
First I don't need their tech and second, I want my ships to capture or kill races or defend planets. I wil not have a lot of ships early in the game.
Later when I have lots of spare ships, there is no longer any reason to care about anties tech. I have already hit Orion by then.

well, you could take orion and get stuck with two useless techs like the quantum detonator and reflection field plus Death ray and particle beam. That has happened to me, and then I go hunting for xetronium and damper fields, which I think are the two most useful Orion techs. If you don't like reality, change it! me

They may be useful, but I don't need them. In fact it is rare that I use damper fields.
Like I said, after I bust Orion, it all over but the shouting. Yeah we will have some decent fights, but I will win them.
If the AI does not stop me from getting Deep Core and Hef, they lose. Their best bet is to make it take too long for me to get those techs and them to get Orion first. Now I will have my hands full.
