  • Help make FREE ORION!!

Greatings disapointed Moo fans the pain of Moo3 is great upon you but do not dispair for salvation is at hand. At this very moment programing is underway on first version of FREE ORION an independent effort by disapointed Moo fans just like yourselves who were so disapointed they desided to "make it the way it should have been made". They seaks to create a new 4X space strategy game in the great tradition of Moo while incorporating many features of games such as SMAC, Heart of Iron, Europa Universal 2, Stars!, Space Empires 4, Empires of the Fading Sun, Civalization, Galactic Civalization and any number of original ideas submited by people just like you.

Drop by www.FreeOrion.org and register on our fresh new forum, sugjest new alien races, brainstorm on the merits of goverment systems, debate planet clasification systems. Lots of stuff is still in the air and we are hungry for ideas and skilled programers and artists. Everyone can contribute, all voices will be heard, dont be left out.

Companions the creator seeks, and fellow harvesters; for everything about him is ripe for the harvest. - Thus spoke Zarathustra, Fredrick Nietzsche

(But you've piqued my interest. You have some high hopes. Good luck with that. )

Oh god. Spare us. These projects never work. Plus they are likely copyright infringement.

Good luck, but I can't imagine a space based game with features from HoI and EU with some SMAC and Civ thrown in. Sounds like a monstrosity, but if it works, hey good for you.

Very nice website, and the game looks good.

However, as much as I hate to admit it, these indie projects are a tough road. It looks like you have a better formula than most though since you have quite a few people working on this.

Are you that motivational speaker that lives in a van down by the river?

I hope you make it, but I have seen at least 3 for Moo1/2 and a few others, but I am still waiting for a finished product.
Someone have done a real nice job on a java Moo1 and bailed out when M003 came out.

That has always been my reaction to fan based efforts. I wonder how its doing now?

                          Sounds like Fun, Good luck.
Independant projects have a lot of potential for making new game ideas and creative work.

I would suggest not making it a copy of Master of Orion , but just the same game type theme. You have no time or monetary constraints , so you can develop the gameplay to quite a deep level. Just make sure you don't take more than 10 years to finish, or people will lose interest.. ideally 2 or 3 years.

I'm working on a commercial game with a similar sci-fi theme. Moo has inspired me quite a bit.
If u need coding, art or design i might have a little time free to help if your projects properly setup.

Greetings. Our project is not dead, and is definitely making progress We're hoping for a 0.1 release fairly soon. If you want to know when it comes out so you can try it, then subscribe to our announcement mailing list. It is very low traffic, but will let you know all major announcements:

We are not cloning any of the MOO games. We are taking elements from a variety of games that we think were particularly good, in order to create a new game. We are creating a new system, and new content. This is not a remake. Our aim is to make the engine moddable.

Dropping by our forums is the best way to get involved. Write a post introducing yourself, or let us know if you want to get involved and how:
