I haven't been able to find anything online, but did Alan ever give his opinion of the finished product? I'd be very curious to hear what he thought.

He posts rarely on things concerning MOO3.
He's working someplace else, but not in the computer game industry, nor even anything having to do with computers (aside from the seminars he's teaching this summer).
His current project is called "Dai Sensou", and it's the Pacific end of his most excellent board wargame "Totaler Krieg!" (which, BTW, is how I ever met him in the first place, as a fan of that game). You can get more info on that on at the ConsimWorld discussion boards (there was also a Totaler Krieg! homepage, but it's down as Alan's old ISP went belly-up).If I'd known then what I know now, I'd never have done all the stuff that led me to what I know now...

I won't discuss Alan's emotional state about any third party; I do not feel it would be proper to do so.
I am yet to receive the comp copy, though I have it on some authority that IG is not exactly the swiftest at taking care of such matters. If I'd known then what I know now, I'd never have done all the stuff that led me to what I know now...

maybe we should get together and send him a comp copy so he can see the finished product. I know about
totaler krieg and the Pacific version, been a wargamer longer than a pc gamer. I have been a fan of Alan's since the days of Civ I when he and Johnny Wilson wrote 'Rome on 640k a day'.

Me too, Vyshka, on all counts. Except that it wasn't until after I'd talked to him about TK! that I put together all the pieces of who he was and what he's written.
It's also cool that his wife helped write some of those things too; she's quite a nice lady. Amazing who you meet in the business. If I'd known then what I know now, I'd never have done all the stuff that led me to what I know now...

I'm still trying to figure out why Alan was ever given the chance to even head up such a design project.
He had no track record that I knew of.,, All I know of him is that he did some "reviews" for a gaming magazine, and once married someone he met online at TSN network where we all played online before the Internet explosion. (got divorced a year later btw )
That happened in the early 90's and next time I even hear of him was the Master of Orion III project !!!
huh ???
Did I miss something of note that he did in between ???

Let's see...
You seem to have missed the work he did on strat guides for games like Civ and MOO1.
You seem to have missed the producer/designer work he did for another company on various games.
You seem to have missed the design work he did (and is still doing) on various wargames.
But aside from 90% of the work he did relating to game design and production, heck no, you didn't miss anything. If I'd known then what I know now, I'd never have done all the stuff that led me to what I know now...
