  • save game bug?

before my game started booting me out of itself by declaring it had direct x surface problems and didnt give a damn what i thought or did about it , it was just going to crash to my desktop; it reminded me of a valuable lesson. save your game before every turn and immediately right after you make a successful trip back to the new sitrep screen. aahh the sitrep screen , dont get me started . ok i'll do it. why does it only show you what colonies are going out when you log back into the game? didnt the save game save the whole sitrep?well if it did wheres the rest of it? maybe i forgot that that x amount of colonies needed some attention . oh , i have to click the turn button and get a new sitrep? that is if it doesnt crash again. well ok i made back to a new sitrep. what this 2 colonies just decided that you didnt coddle them last turn and they have declared themselves your ex-colonies so there! ok thats one save bug , and thats just the little bug!! here comes the biggy!! are you ready? haha you just think you are !! grab that hanky and share some tears with me!! here goes......... that new sitrep gave me not only my new megabolt cannon but also a new shield level 9 whoohoo!! ok here comes the tough part i declare all previous ship designs unworthy and hereby creat all new ships! all new orbitals and all new system ships will have these new designs. im not a gglutton for micromanagement so i let the comp auto build it does ok. wow what a task all new ships up to leviathan class now have the weapons and shields cool. well now i want all the shipyards to start cranking these babies out... uh oh i have to do that manually now dont i or else the ai may keep making outdated designs. so i do it.. painstakingly!! although lovingly because this is hands on!! this rocks my designs will be implemented yeah!! did i mention i have about 170 planets ? what can i say the galaxy is huge i like epic games and this is an epic undertaking, not all my planets can build titans and fewer build behemoths and i havent got the tech to build leviathans yet although i can design them . ok that means i go through about 80 planets interface by interface adding my new designs . if you want it done right do it yourself!! this whole act of creating new ships and adding them to the build key takes me about an hour and boy was it worth it, but now im tired and must crash out . thats all the micromanagement a man should have to do . goodnight moo3 let me just save my game before i log out, whats that moo3? do i want to overwrite my last turn? oh yeah i had to save as soon as the sitrep popped up in case of a direct x problem. i didnt want to have to replay that tough fight against the en-irithraker they are tough!! so yes moo3 ..in answer to your question i do wholeheartedly want to overwrite my last save. thank you moo3 goodnight........sleep........ wakefulness...log back into moo3 ..the hell with breakfast ill eat a harvester!! yes load that last save game !! things are gonna be different now i can feel it i got new vessels there all in my build key lets rock!! wait a sec !! where are my new ship designs?? huh?? why do all my build keys still have all that old stuff ?? i have the new tech, my tech tree says so!! didnt it overwrite?? no boys and girls it DIDNT OVERWRITE!! all that time wasted!! see what i mean!! its a tear jerker aint it?? even sadder than when spock died or old yeller or when that kid got dumped by his mom in AI . well, has anybody else had this happen? the only save that counts is the first save of the new turn!! so dont save until you are absolutly sure you need to, i cant wait that long myself, i have the direct x plague and any time i make it to a new sitrep imust save then!!! because the plague will claim yet another turn if i dont!!

Yep - saved games save from the begginning of the turn only. Live with it And use some capital letters or my eyes will have a Direct X error. (I'm going x-eyed )

Umm, yes there are bugs. We are all eagerly waiting for the patch.

The savegame problem could be because you have too many already... or is that only tied to the directX bug...?!

            And paragraphs!

PS: Isn't the default to autosave every turn?

Sorry about the lack of capitals and the lack of paragraphs , its been a long time since I had to communicate this way.
Yes there is an autosave but guess what?, it only autosaves the begining of your turn so anything you do in that turn is meaningless unless you hit the turn button again.
I would normally have no problem with this, but hitting the turn button is more of a gamble then the one armed bandits in Las Vegas!!
I have the direct x plague. It's the sars of the moo3 community!

Is anyone working on a cure?

Of all the things that annoy me about MoO3 (and there are a lot of them), the fact that it only saves at the beginning of a turn is perhaps the most annoying.

I'm a casual TBS addict. I'm not as hardcore as most of the community here, and play most of my TBS games at normal difficulty levels, and usually for short stints of time at each sitting.

For me, what this means is that, after the umpteenth time I slapped my head the next night after a spurt of MoO3 playing and realized I had to redo a whole buch of poop because of that save game issue, I just stopped playing. It compounded with a bunch of minor issues and sapped my enjoyment of the game.

If this issue is changed, along with the rest of the issues to be addressed with the awaited code patch, I'll be giving the game another chance. I /like/ a /lot/ of what MoO3 is doing, and really want to like the game as a whole. Unfortunately, it is no fun at all for me as it is. Hopefully, one day, it will be.

P.S. GalCiv has its warts, and in many ways I'm sitting there doing very little and pressing next turn just like in MoO3, but for some indefinable reason, it is just plain fun in a way MoO3 is not. My hope is that soon MoO3 will be "fixed", and then I'll have two great galactic conquest TBS games to play. Which would be keen.

                  Direct-x fix???

I had Direct-x problems, and when I emptied out a few files from my saved game folder, it fixed it. I'm wondering if you can only have like 81 files in the folder (I counted the number in the folder last time I ran into the problem. Anyways, cleaning out this folder periodically may be a workaround to this problem.

I was reading through the fix-list (again) and I still can't figure out if the save game and Direct X issues are included. Does anyone know?

I have not checked, but I'm sure the direct X save game error has been fixed.

Also with out checking - I think the sit rep now gets saved and loaded to aid with 'occasional' gamers.

Actions carried out during a turn are deliberatly not saved - I think its to help with multiplayer reloads.

I hope you're right about Direct X being fixed, especially since changes made during a turn will not be saved. I hate when I've spent a lot of time making changes during a turn only to get the Direct X before the next turn autosave has been written.
