Like the game a lot; one game is too early to draw solid conclusions, but this smells like a winner--a big winner.
Anyway, I finished my first game today. Played on beginner difficulty, gigantic galaxy. A couple of strange things happened.
First, I was allied for most of the game with the Sluggies and the Benevolent Ogres (can't remember the real names). They were both allied with each other, plus they were allied with the Tattooed Humanoids. I could never get my relations above friendly with the Tattooed folks, probably because I spent a considerable sum trying to destabilize them earlier--they were limited to three systems in two sectors way off in a corner, and my culture was all around them.
Anyway, I eventually wiped out the Robots and the Evil Chipmunks. Technically, this should have meant Allied Victory for the Sluggies and the Ogres, since they were allied with everyone who was left; however, the game continued.
A few turns later, a random event announced that people everywhere were becoming interested in my culture, and my control (already about 2/3 of the galaxy) began to spread even further. Two turns later, after jacking up destabilization again, all the Tattooed planets defected to me.
THEN the game ended--a cutscene of a ship landing at Alliance HQ or something of that sort. "Okay," I thought, "an Alliance victory." But the following text screen talking about how the entire galaxy was listening to my music and wearing my blue jeans or something or other... obviously, a culture victory message. But after reviewing all the stats, it said "Alliance victory".
Is it possible that I simultaneous fulfilled both the Alliance and Culture victory requirements on the same turn, causing the game to go all higgledy-piggledy? And why exactly didn't the Sluggies and Ogres win an Alliance victory after I layed the smack down on the Chipmunks?
