What is Excalibur tech? I have heard people talking about it but have never come across it. They say that the Excalibur unit is the most powerful ship. I thought that the most powerful ones were the Overlords. Could someone please clarify this for me? Thanks.

Excalibur tech and ships were added in the BonusPak, so if you havn't downloaded that, then Overlords are indeed the most powerful ships available. Excaliburs have A 80 / D 20 / M 10, to compare with the Overlord's A 20 / D 12 / M 2 (this before bonuses due to tech / etc), and costs twice as much to build. Excalibur tech is very late-game, so when you can research it, you're just a few (a few very expensive) techs from the tech victory...

    Hope that helps.

It helps me, but if someone has excalibur's is he unstoppable?

Or are excalibur's so expensive that you can really not build up an army of them?
While there might be a physics engine that applies to the jugs, I doubt that an entire engine was written specifically for the funbags. - Cyclotron - debating the pressing issue of boobies in games.

What are the requirements for Excalibur? The best ship I've researched so far is Ranger, and it seems a little lackluster compared to the Dreadnaught.

What makes Rangers so good is that they can explore anomilies and get the upgrades those bring. They are at the end of the Survey Ship -> Star Hawk -> Ranger line in those kinds of ships. I wouldn't build many of them, because it would defeat the point of trying to collect all the good bonuses with one ship, but I would definately keep a few.

The Excalibur is a bit silly. You get it 2 techs before the tech victory, so it's only useful if you have tech victory turned off (or you want to see the domination victory cutscene!).

I just got Excalibur, but I was twenty months from a tech win and my highest production planet was looking to take fifty turns to crank one out.

Yeah, but that downside is made up for by the fact it is so overwhelmingly powerful. If I'm an advanced race I want to be able to throw that weight around.

I played around with a couple during a tech win game. They are ridiculously powerful.
