  • Terror Star Thought/Question

    Does anyone know if the positive bonuses (culture/trade/military/etc) stay with a Starbase when it becomes a Terror Star? Obviously, the defensive bonuses stay.

    It occurrs to me that this might make an interesting, albeit expensive tactic- load up four or five terrors stars with maximum culture (and maximum defense, obviously) and send them for a slow, ponderous, and sure march across the galaxy....

    I suppose you could also tweak production and trade route needs this way, too. And here's a further thought: if you build a terror star on a resource, can you drag the resource away with you?

    Yup, sending out culture-maxed terror stars work. I've read players on the galciv forum doing that. There was even a thread discussing what to call them, with suggestions such as 'Party Star' ...

      Suggestion

      Don't send culturally maxed-out terror stars from your worlds to there's. Send a fleet of constructors (guarded by your most powerful ships). Constuct terror star near corners of sectors to make shifting your "spheres of influence" (my name for these things) to other sectors quick. (Build the whole palace thing inside, its great - and add factories for when you take the systems in the sector ...)

        how do you use terror stars as weapon of destruction? do you have to move them like a regular ship? if so I dont see the point as it takes forever to move them!

          Aaahhh! But you can't destroy entire star systems with frigates or dreadnaughts. Watch how quickly an opposing civ capitulates after you annihilate one of their large star systems. When you make peace you can pretty much name your price and they soil themselves trying to please you.

            but how do you destroy entire star systam with a terror star?

            The way I use it is that I send it toward an enemy galaxy, waiting for people to fall in love with my culture.

            What am I misssing?

              Select your terror star and right click a star system. If you're at war, it'll run right up (figuratively speaking) and blast the star. If you're not at war, you go through the standard war vote and then you get to blast it. Very satisfying.

                oh I see, so you really have to move that mamoth up to the star. But it takes forever going at 1 parsec a turn.

                Way too slow for me, especially on big maps

                  I usually play small maps due to my 450 processor so it's not so bad for me. The worst thing about moving it is keeping it protected from other civs while it's getting to it's destination. You may want to build one and load it with the Culture Palace modules. Then you can flip civs while you're moving it into position.

                    Don't worry about the speed. Large maps work fine on my 266. Takes 2 minutes to load saves though...

                        Oh yeah, terror stars, i named my first one as a Death Star ( very original nobody would do that before ), 1 point of move? cruel, very cruel, now i understand why it is called Terror star i payed 5000 and used lot of constructors to build that , i get terrorized when it can only make 1 point of move and had 30 of defense a Dreadnogout kill it....sooooooo sad
