Alliances

Hello,

in all descriptions of Galciv on the www,
it seems to be possible to form your own alliances,

but up untill now i have not yet found how to do it ???
when talking to an alien race, under treaties,
i only see
'make peace'
and
'attack'
and occasionally
'peace treaty' when at war with this race.

are alliances something that happens automatically,
or must be suggested by the other race ?

or is this something that is awaiting patching ?

First you have to research the Alliances technology. You can only form alliances with races you are 'Close' to. I usually wait until this level of diplomacy is reached then give them Alliances as a gift. You have to wait a turn or two then you can form an alliance with that race. You can try to persuade them at 'Friendly' by giving them additional tech but be careful because I've done this and watched my carefully cultivated ally form his own alliance with my mortal enemy, ruining my chances.

Also beware sometimes an ally will break the alliance and attack you. You won't like it when it happens to you...
