  • First Patch Coming Up

Brad Wardell announced the details of the firs galciv update:

Next week we'll be releasing the first update to GalCiv.

    Features in the update:
+ Fix for the diplomacy crash with minor races that a few people have run into - note, the only reason we were able to fix this is thanks to people who sent us their SmartException log. Thanks!!

+ Smarter AI (not harder) with regards to star bases. One of the personalities will be really worked on to try a starbase gambit. I won't say which though.

+ Various bug fixes that we've implemented over the last week or two but didn't have time to playtest adequately before checking them in.

+ POSSIBLY a new feature: Ability to have new ships built automatically leave orbit when completed.

+ POSSIBLY a new treaty option: Declaration of war. Not sure on this one yet depends on how much work that is. Otherwise it'll come later.

One of the other things we are hoping to look at are various little polish things. Little stuff like text going over its field in a few places, that sort of thing.

+ Fix for the terraformer wonder. We fixed this awhile ago but hadn't had time to playtest it.

Brad also gave some news on the ship modification utility:
Seperately, we expect to release the star ship builder beta next week. It's actually floating around hree somewhere (on IRC we were handing it out earlier). Basically I believe you simply make a TARGA image with the various facings of the ship for the 6 major races plus 1 for minor races and then name it.
Then you just make the text .ship file that tells it how powerful and such it is. You'll be able to submit these to the library.

The patch will be availaible through the Stardock Central

Bit slow there Mark, it had already been released at time of yuo posting

    Version 1.01a 30

Its 1mb on Stardock, fixes include:-

March 30, 2003: Tweaks, fixes, and events...
    Changes:
+ Some random events come later in the game.
+ Technology Trade United Planets issue nerfed
+ AI considers technology trade values more at lower intelligence levels
+ Crash bug in diplomacy screen hopefully fixed
    + Terraformer can be built
+ SDNet.lib updated for those who have had trouble submitting scores. Make sure you register with the metaverse.
+ Duplicate building of wonders / trade goods fixed
+ Added 2 new random events
    + Anti-Cheat methods beefed up
    + Metaverse submits difficulty level

There will be another update later in the week so unless any of these things look compellign to you, don't feel obligated to get it.

Though based on the posts, some of the changes to random events and the trade all tech UP issue will probably be good news to some.

It should be noted that a few folks (like me) cannot seem to get the update.

I could not find it either. I was already register and bought it from EB. I got the bonus pak a few days ago from the site.

It's do believe it is what they call a minor update, not a full blown patch, so you have to use stardock central to get it.

that's how i got it. I launch stardock central and the update was listed for galciv.
While there might be a physics engine that applies to the jugs, I doubt that an entire engine was written specifically for the funbags. - Cyclotron - debating the pressing issue of boobies in games.

there's no other way. i dont think any patches in the future are going to be available as simple downloads

Major updates will be done as patches like you see with other games. Minro updates will be handled only through Stardock Central.

                Brad,

Any word on if those of us not desiring to download 85 mbs can get this corrected?

It seems they have a few issues with the straight update process.
I finally figured out how to get the update, but it was the full 84.5MB.
