  • Brad and Sencho having an argument on MoO3 forums

    Go here: http://www.ina-community.com/forums/...hreadid=279705

I just confirms what I have been thinking all along: The MoO3 forum is a strange and scary place. Now even the mods have caught he disease. In my oppinion, Brad had every right to complain.

I've been at the IG forums longer than any of those guys, and will be there long after the MoO3 forums are dead.

Asmodean, I agree. Brad was right. Those accusing him of trying to "quash dissent" are being melodramatic. He just stated an opinion that he thought the opinion expressed by Sencho was done in a tacky manner, and I agree with him.

Personally I say they were both wrong. Mods shouldn't be speaking out against a game that is pretty much competition and Brad shouldn't have gone to defend it. Neither of them have unbias'd positions, all that ended up was a big arguement. Then theres the problem that Sencho's post barely had anything to do with the original question and that Brad kept claiming to be there as MoO3 customer, it was all just ugly. I could understand things being tense over there but mods flaming a game on a topic that didn't even ask about the games merits is mind boggling. Anyway, said my peace.

I think we should mention for anyone that goes to see that thread that Sencho actually edited his post some time after, to make it less harsh...

I dunno CV, if I was the designer of something that I've been putting a good bit of my time into, I'm sure that I would have defended it as well. Mods shouldn't incite dissent on other products so they can(IMHO) take attention off what a subpar game they made. The MOO3 IG boards are run far differently than a lot of other places, thats for sure.

I guess it is to be expected though, two similar genre games coming out at the same time are going to be compared to each other. And by their respective fans, probably in the harshest of terms.

Just to set the record straight, I was there as a MOO 3 player. I have MOO 3, I am playing MOO 3. And I came across Sencho's post.

But when I responded, I clearly wrote that I work for Stardock and was the designer of GalCiv.

But I certainly don't consider visiting the MOO 3 forums as part of my "job".

I don't like flame wars. But realistically, in my opinion, moderators are the ones who set the tone for a given message board. If moderators are attacking a game that seems to be competitive in nature, it encourages others to do the same because a moderator is an authority figure.

What I don't want, both as a MOO3 player and as someone involved with GalCiv, is to see the MOO forums turned into some sort of vast GalCiv vs. MOO 3 flame war. I would rather people see these games as allies in a quest to make 4X strategy games more well known.

And when moderators become partisans, you end up with people who feel strongly on one side doing battle with those on the other side and the whole forum ends up a constant flame fest.

Sencho is so obviously a big fish in a small pond.

The fact that he has no nads was evidenced by the fact that he edited his post in response to criticism.

ooh, look at me. I am the moderator of a game forum. Here's my hot opinion about the lame competition. What? I'm an ass? OK, let me edit my post so that I look like a fair and balanced guy!

What did Sencho is really "dictatorial" in essence. Brad did well, only he can't win against such an *ssh*le
