  • Yess!!

So I finally had a chance to purchase the xpack, Dark Avatar. I just started a game, and right off the bat, I am loving it! Of course, I would not have appreciated the enhancements without having played Dread Lords first. So getting the xpack after a few DL games gives me a nice thrust into expanded gameplay!

btw- I hadn't yet played on a gigantic map with clusters... I have to admit it gives me a sense of SPACE playing it this way. Great game guys! Keep it coming, and keep the 4x dream alive

Bought it a week or so as well, with gratitude to the cheap dollar.

Been playing as the Altarian resistance on a very large map and my impressions are good. The tech tree underwent a cosmetic change that is never the less wonderfully helpful in removing the generic feeling to it. Gathering intelligence on other races requires active involvement. The galaxy isn't drowning in starbases anymore. Races still surrender far too easily to my taste though.

My game has been okay-ish so far. Took a lead in technology and grabbed a fair amount of resources. The humans then gained the upper hand in technology and became the big boy in the class. Right when the first war broke out (forgot between whom) the galaxy was invaded by swarms of pirates that cut off all trade links, destroyed all starbases and wiped out any semblance of a military force. It was as if the Vikings were rampaging Europe. Miraculously a science resource mining starbase of mine has been surving the onslaught. It seems they never noticed it.
Took years and a lot of research before the civilizations finally managed to get a grip on piracy and even now it's still not safe to send vessels in obscure corners of the galaxy without escort.

In the meantime the Yor declared war on me and due to my super ability the Torians, the Drath and the Iconians joined on my side. The Torians however surrendered after a few turns even though they were on the other side of the galaxy from the Yor (with me in between), the Yor did not have military vessels and could not have possibly have posed an immediate threat due to the Pirates (hence my complaint surrendering needs to be toned down).
The Yor are scary ****ers BTW, since they can colonise barren worlds from the start, they now have planets all over the galaxy. I can still contain their forces (in tandem with the Iconians - the Drath also surrendered too lightly) but I don't know for how much longer. I feel that when they're going to launch an invasion, they're going to do it big-time. Also foolishly lost an election which is handicapping my already meagre resources. Gonna be a challenging game.

Doh. Just noticed you can turn surrenders off.

Well, I guess that's another excellent improvement.

I agree about the nice features to the tech tree. The zooming ability is fantastic as well.

I haven't played my game enough since my initial post... must make some free time tomorrow
