    Hi all

I bought a retail version of GalCiv2 on Thursday, installed it, then updated Stardock Central, upgraded GalCiv2, then after a few disappointments upgraded video drivers, and finally, after setting anti-aliasing to zero (0), got going. Huzzah!

Game plays mostly fine. I can run all the tutorials too. The only problem is that I never (ever) see the Battle Viewer. No matter what type of ship combat I have, no joy. The combat occurs only in the main galaxy map, with a few animations and beam weapons, explosions etc. I never switch to the Battle Viewer / Window.

I have seen what it looks like, of course, from the Tutorials and screen captures elsewhere on the web.

I've got all the battle options checked in the Interface option screen.

    Any ideas what's happening?

Congratulations on buying Galciv 2, hopefully you won't be disappointed! It really is a great game.

Sounds like you might have an older configuration? I haven't heard of this problem before, but the interface options regarding the battle viewer are a little stange so make sure you read through them all carefully, you might not want them all checked. Also, if you do have an older configuration it might have something to do with that as I'm sure the Battle Viewer is the most graphically demanding part of the game.

You can really play the game just fine without seeing the battle viewer, but it is kind of cool to see your ships battling it out in detail so I hope you can get it working.

Can anyone else help this guy?

      Hi there

Thanks fo the reply. Yes, I found I could play without the Viewer, it just wasn't as much fun.

The thing is, I seem to have corrected the problem. I made sure the settings are all correct, and in currently active games (from Saved games) I still had no joy.

Yet as soon as I started a new game, behold! I found the viewer worked fine.

Given the saved games I had were mostly skirmishy-experiment types as I was learning, this was no great inconvenience.

And any of the new games I saved seem to work fine as well.

      *knock on wood* problem solved

      Thanks for your advice
