Anybody ever compared the first MOO to Starlords (which was released earlier)? They're remarkably similar and not just in basic concept.

[edit] please, somebody call me an idiot, I just found out that Starlords is actually a pre-release version of MOO - no **** they look remarkably similar

For the curious: http://moo3.quicksilver.com/game/starlords.html (there's a download link as well)

Anyone ever play the old VGA Planets game?

Friendly and helpful customer support that goes above and beyond. We help you get the perfect domain name.

Was similar style and was based around play by mail (not email, such things were rare in those days). Only ran on DOS as windows was a program then, not an operating system. Used to playat school, but never really got anywhere as most people got tired of the slowness of proression. For that game the 'host' produced a bunch of result files, one for each player. These were then give to the players and loaded into a client on their machines. They played their turn and the client produced a turn file. When all the turn files were returned to the host, the host ran the turn and redistributed the result files, and so on and so forth.

I remember mostly that there was a race that had tech to drain the power from enemy ships. I could watch an enemy ship for 2 turns and then use my newly aquired year 10 math to work out it's next coordinates. Just made sure I'd be at those coords the next turn and drain any ships in area. Worked every time.

Bit off topic I know sorry, but thought you might like my story.

Well, I'm not activist or something, I can play the game if it's good and the rest is not important after all.

Yet I think it cannot be denied: these games are FAR too similar, one of the two is a blatant rip-off of the other one... if they first came out in close moments, then it means there has been some "industrial espionage" going on...
          Parallel evolution, perhaps?

You will also perhaps find the AI just a *little* bit smarter than MOO...
