  • How do I reset the race bonuses to the defaults?

I've customized a couple of races in the game when playing them and I've noticed that the bonuses have stayed the same for them in other games. Is there a way to reset the race bonuses to the default values?

This has been mentioned as a problem. Maybe there will be a fix in 1.1. There's also a utility program here that may do what you want (warning---I haven't tried it):

Maybe Stardock can tell us which .xml files to back up before we make changes - so we can return them to their original state.

I agree this is an issue - I made changes already not realizing you could not return to default easily. I am going to try out the utility program DaviddesJ mentioned this weekend on a clean install if time permits - will let you know how it works.

        ...\My Documents\My Games\GalCiv2\CurrentCustomRace0-9.raceconfig

Delete that file and the race will be reset. I'm hoping and expecting an easier fix to this in 1.1.

Thanks, that did the trick. No more super-Drengins for me!

do the changes you make to a Civ stick even when it is an AI civ? In other words, if I play the Torians and set their 'bonus' attributes, will the Torians have those same attributes when the AI is playing it in another game?

I did a test to see if this was true, and I THINK it is (uncertain for reasons I'll go into later).

I started up a game as the Drengin, who have 7 free points to spend on abilities (oddly, not all of their special abilities show up on the ability customization screen, so presumably you could double up on therm). I spent 5 of them on the top diplomacy skill, started the game, quit, then started a new one, with me as humans and the AI playing Drengin.

When I made contact with the Drengin (soon, Tiny map), I immediately spent the maximum on espionage and checked their abilities when I got some intelligence.

They had Diplomacy +28%. This isn't as high as it should have been for the points I spent on it, but it's higher than the Drengin should get. This was fairly early on, so it's possible the Drengin nabbed some anomalies that gave bonuses to Diplomacy, or used a government that gave a bonus, but I don't think it would add up to that much.

So, it appears it sticks, at least in the unpatched retail version.
