Is all combat a fight to the death, or can you instruct your ships (before the battle starts) to flee if they take losses above a certain amount? (I understand you can't give orders while combat is going on, but can you give standing orders to retreat if things go badly?)

I sorta like the fight to the death..
Keeping in mind if you could retreat,,then so could the AI,, then you would need to constantly re-fight over and over..Comment
