Starbase help please

    If you're doing it preemptively, do you really need the starbase defenses first? You've already got ships in the area to defend it.

      If you don't all it take is one shot and your starbase is dead.

        I did an offensive military starbase last night and it kicked butt. The 3 constructors (base, an beam weapons module, and a defense module) were priced about the same as 3 additional fighters, and the starbase added about the same amount of firepower to the fight as 3 more fighters would have. But here was the difference: at the end of the battle, I still had the starbase. Had I thrown more cheap ships into the fray I still would have won, but some of the ships would have died. Now I have a defensive military starbase left to show for it. Very nice.

        Also, I noticed that if I add just one point of deflector, the +1/each defense bonus from the starbase was added to ALL THREE defense types. In other words, if I have 0/0/0 defense I get no bonus, but just 1/0/0 defense and the starbase boosts it to 2/1/1. This is big. That's 4 total defense vs. laser. My guys were tanks.

        This is MUCH more bang for your buck, if you can just lure the other guy's ships into your radius. I wish I had known this vs. the Dread Lords.
