  • Tried to do some research abou the game, couldn't find any answers.

I am trying to get some info on the game and found some, didn't find others.

I love building my ships and read good things about the ship builder. My question is, if you make a specialty ship, would it be used in combat well, or is it just bigger guns and bigger ships win combat, there is no no tactics to combat. Say a ship just with ecm or eccm or a fighter just begging to be pinged off so the bigger ships will be left alone?

Is there espionage in the game? Can you steal research? Can you destroy building from other empires? Can you subvert or make rebellion to anthour empire?

Is it one planet per solar systems or multiple planets per solar system like MOO3?

I might have other questions, but forgot them right now, will ask them later.

www.galciv2.com will answer a lot of them.

    No tactical combat.
Yes there is espionage (provides empire, planet and ship data).
You can steal technologies if you get a high enough espionage (supposed to anyway).
Buildings might be destroyed if you used something like mass drivers or core detonation when invading a planet.
If you have a high enough culture in a sector you can "flip" and enemy planet to your side.
Multiple planets per system, up to 5.

Espionage is very basic, it merely provides some info that is of little value. You can occasionally steal tech, but you have little control over what, when and from who. All you do is decide how much money to spend on espionage against each other civ. That's it.

Here is where espionage is useful that I've found:

        1) Enemy ship stats (hit points, weapons, etc). You do get basic info without espionage but it's better once you get to low.

        2) Basic starbase stats at low. You'll be able to see how tricked out the starbase is (such as what it's attack and defense values are) which is very important. This alone has saved me from blowing my ships up against a starbase that's heavy with military modules. If you get to "advanced" then you can get details on the exact modules.

        3) Once you get to low you can get basic details about an enemy planet such as it's approval rating and influence. This can be useful to see how much influence you might be exerting on that planet to see how soon it might flip. I think if you get advanced then you can actually open up the planet screen for an enemy planet but I've never gotten that far.

For me I'll fund to low espionage for sure and usually up to medium as well. Once I've got medium I'll usually tone espionage down but still fund it. Once I'm high I usually just shut it off. Be aware that over time it gets more expensive so if you're hurting for fundage it's a decent way to shave off some expenses by dialing back the espionage. I also turn it off for a civ whom I'm taking down. No need to spend that money anymore since all their worlds will soon be mine.

That's strange, you can get a starbase's military stats and a planet's approval without espionage.
