how many new techs does it add? how many random events does add? is it interesting?

I did not played Altarian Prophecy, but for GalCiv questions you may also look at GalCiv.com's forums.

I know Altarian Prophecy expansion adds new races (so you can play against a few races more), each with its own unique artificial intelligence behaviour. Other than that, I don't know how's the tech tree and such.

Also, Altarian Prophecy has some campaigns with their story lines (a bit like StarCraft had its campaigns perhaps, I can't discuss it since I did not played the expansion).

If you wish to buy it, you may be interested to know that you can get the whole package from www.totalgaming.net which, for a bit more, includes many other games (Political Machine won awards recently but it may or may not be your style, O.R.B., Disciples II, other little goodies just for fun...).

I think AP adds only two new races and not many new techs or events, but with the editor you can make your own events. I think but I don't think you can make your own races. You can make plenty of other stuff with the editor. I still haven't gotten around to finding out for myself what it has yet, though.
