According to the manual that was in my game box, there are supposed to be Progressive, Industrialist, and Universalist parties. When I create a civilization, there are only six (Federalist, Populist, War Party, Pacifist, Technocrat, Mercantile). Where are the other political parties?

The patch will handle that as indicated but if you wish to really enjoy the game download some of the excellent mods available. Many political parties & Mods are out there for you to use. Icho_Tolot Mod packs are the best there is I feel. (Little bias maybe) I use the Science Corp that is included with his Mod.
Moser_The_Alchemist has some great Mods also. I never play the game without installing Mods especially events and anomalies you can never get enough. Hope your still playing! Thanks ~ Desert Fox (Real Nickname)

Sorry I took so long to reply. Yes I am sure Mark has many Galciv Mods online here. www.galciv.com is the main support site. Look in the Library there or the mirror at NeoTech Website. There are about 220 Mods over all for Galciv and Altarian Prophecy.
I recommend the ones I mentioned above they are the best. You may want to check out various Empires and join one that fits your tastes. This is why I am still playing the Empires are a lot of fun to be part of. Apolyton has its own Empire and many others also. Thanks ~ Desert Fox (Real Nickname)

To specifically address the problem of where the other parties went, they were pulled just prior to the original box release because of admitted balancing problems. An adendum to the manual appeared somewhere on galciv.com at the time which stated this. They have, as has been stated here, been restored in the patches. Presumably the blancing problems have been fixed (cue sales message from Desert Dog!?!)
