  • First look at premium Expansion Pack

Brad Wardell, head of developement of Galactic Civilizations, has posted a couple of screenshots of the perhaps upcoming premium Expansion Pack for Galactic Civilizations.

They can be found at http://joe.joeuser.com/index.asp?AID=516 along with a short description of how things are going with X Pack.

While not much, it is the first real confirmation that Stardock are seriously considering the release of this X Pack - an idea that has been kicked around since the release of the free X Pack earlier this year.

    I say hoooorrrraaayyyy

..... And the October "Tweak, Bugfix and New Features" update is n0w available through Stardock.

With so many different version of Gal Civ out there it is better to download thro Stardock as it will check which files the user needs.

    I like this company .......

With what Brad Wardell has posted today, it looks more and more like they've committed themselves to making a paid expansion.

They haven't come right out and said so, but the wind is definately blowing that way.

      YES!!!

They now have committed to getting an expansion pack for 20$ in january. There should be a scenario editor, so I hope it will be good.

I just hope the editor has at least some provision for scripted events. Civ3 was a huge disappointment in this regard.
It'd also be nice if this were more of a mega-expansion - a la Civ2:ToT, with multiple maps, etc, but I guess that'd be a bit too much to hope for given the development cost/time.

They announced a campaign which includes many C++ hard coded events, so I wouldn't bet too much on scripts, but who knows? If those C++ events can be triggered from script, it would be fine...
There won't be layers of maps, but they add 2 races, which increases the number of possible majors to 7.
It remains to be seen what Stardock will provide in terms of scenario-making.
I am afraid that they want to provide stuff but may not meet our expectations (I mean look at what CtP2 modders and civ2 scen-makers did - expectations are high around here-). I'd be happy if they bundled Hawai5O's editor and added a kind of modswapping options (currently you can only add things into a data directory instead of adding scenario directories).

As a non-programmer, my wish for a scripting language can fit in a very small place.

But I do hope they increase moddability in other ways. Allowing us to create new units, complete with graphics would be one way. That's a thing that I hope to see.

AFAIK, you can make new units complete with graphics.
Check the modding thread in the www.galciv.com forums. I think Carielf explained how it was done I'm not sure about the images format).

Well... I've watched for 10 minutes now and nothing happened. :P

Err... I just wanted to point out that with the new version to be released this week (although it's already Friday evening*) you can store modded files in separate folders instead of the data folder and even select with which ones you want to play.

Edit: *Ok, has been delayed to Monday.
