  • 2 Things: Research and the Metaverse

    I really like Galciv.

Aside from the lack of zoom on the main map and some rather obscure combat, I like it.

Ok, about research. Does anyone else agree that it is rather annoying that if you want to get something, say, transports, there is no easy way to find out the research path?

The new tech tree allows you to navigate forward and back, but if you want to beeline for a tech that suits your strategy, the game becomes a tedious forward, back, forward, back "let's check this tech to see what's next etc.."

I realize that this layout was probably meant to simulate the uncertain nature of research in general, but wow....i want a more definite tech tree structure.

Now, the metaverse.. I think it is the best thing for TBS that has happened so far.

The fact that you can join an empire and contribute your score to it, adds an infinite amount of replayability.

I'm always wanting to play another game of galciv to try and contribute more points to my empire.

I wish civ and smac had this.
While there might be a physics engine that applies to the jugs, I doubt that an entire engine was written specifically for the funbags. - Cyclotron - debating the pressing issue of boobies in games.

I think that if you upgrade Gal Civ you get a better tech tree.

It is probably a result of two things. First, an error in judgement by Brad Wardell. He has said that at first he was against a tech tree navigator, because it would give too much away. The player wouldn't truly have the feel that he was exploring. Later he has admitted that this was wrong, and that the tech is something that all players want, and that he shouldn't have denied it to the players.

Second, once he realized this, he pledgedto have a tech tree navigator in the expansion. He delivered on this, but many have complained about this new tech tree navigator. I myself have qualms with it, but it is still lightyears better than what we had. I think that possibly Brad wanted a better system, but ultimately there's only so much you can do, when you are making a free expansion, considering how much support GalCiv has already been given.
