  • I need a "Galatic Civ Comlete Walkthrough"

I finally figured out the basics after reading 100 pages of strategy guide and Manuel, but I still don't really understand this game, or at least get enjoyment from it. I can't really gauge how much a starbase affects thing, or any sort of improvement to starbases or planets.

I think the best thing would be if someone were to take the time to play a game, recording practically every decision, and stating its effects. This would really help make it possible for a new player to learn to play, though it probably would have to be 30 or so pages, even with small screenshots.

    For example:
I start off the game by setting military to a hundred, and social and research to 0, tax 40, and spending to 100. This allows me to build a colony ship every 2 turns or so, and leads to a fast expansion. I explore with my survey ship picking up anomalies along the way in the direction of the closest star. When I reach it I see that it has a planet quality of 15, which makes it good for colonizing. I settle it and build ___, as it will ___ etc.

I'd really like to learn to play and enjoy this game, but I don't understand the strategy behind the moves. What I said above is practically the ONLY thing I do understand.

If there is a succesion game somwhere I can read, that might help (I'm an experienced civ 3 player, able to beat diety, and do an emproer OCC's with ease).

(Lost a huge first post, won't type it all again...)
Look on galciv.com forums, there are GotMonth's, with After Action Reports in them. Some have a few screenshots and ponder quite a bit on what to do with star XXX at a given time. There may not be all the details you want, and it is not succession games, but you can see many ways of handling the same map, and even download it for yourself to toy with. I played the June one, didn't have time for the others, so I don't know what the AAR's are on the other games, but that could help a bit.
