I just wanted to get this cleared up once and for all, since I never see it discussed and someone actually questioned a post I made in "why are you putting galciv aside" by asking how this would make the game more enjoyable for me.

I think that being able to zoom to different levels on the main map would be a great plus for getting a better view of your surroundings (in addition to the zoomable "blip map" in the upper right hand corner.)

Am I alone in this? Or is there a way to do it that I am missing?

And to be perfectly clear, I am talking about the map that shows the actual ships etc...
While there might be a physics engine that applies to the jugs, I doubt that an entire engine was written specifically for the funbags. - Cyclotron - debating the pressing issue of boobies in games.

I'd like to see it. Aren't they adding that feature in the expansion pack?

Glad to see i'm not alone, as I previously thought.

          alas, not in the expansion...

Maybe the Pay for Play expansion that is coming this Christmas.

I have suggested being able to zoom in and out of the main map (especially out), since GC 1.00.

Well, since GalCiv is using sprites, I think this is a no-can-do. Wouldn't that require a fully implemented 3D graphics engine?

I'm no graphics expert, but I think so.

That shouldn't matter in the slightest to whether or not you can zoom.

I played the GalCiv demo and the lack of an efficient zoom was one of the reasons why I did not buy the game. I talked about this in a post but it was not considered as a major flaw.

I can't imagine a real strategy game, or a game pretending to be one, without an efficient zoom.

I consider it a substantial flaw

I'm always echoing this sentiment. It would help the game immensly IMHO.

I agree. It would certainly make the game more playable.
