    I played on normal difficulty medium. Dregin empire sucked and woukd face ectinsion within few year, if somebody attack it. But random event added +16 planet value to all planets in the sector. Now they have one star with 50 billion population and 35 value planet, and neighbour star with 30 billion population. Dregins already destroyed Altarians, who gained Ranger ship from random event (ranger is helpless against dozens of corvetes) now dregins declared war on me and Arceans. We are trying to hold them, but hundred of frigates is devastating power.

      After 3 hours of playing:
      Neutrals and me with Arce. empire stopped the attack but failed to conquer dregins. During the war 3 space sharks escaped monster park on my planet and destroyed my main starbase and my USS Hero with avatar-like strength. When missiles and rangers were invented Sharks stoped existence. After the short caesfire the war conitbued. Now me with neytrals (and almost killed Torians, who olive in the corner, no stars within 4 sectors from the only Torian star) are fighting Arceans+Dregins. The evil aliance already killed 4 neutrals, but federals are very tough. Everybody except me operate tens of dreadnoughts and rangers. I have pair of avatars, who halp me hold strategically important sectors, that contain pairs of stations (+20 attack in sector).

      I have no idea what will be next.

        The random events can be wildly excessive at times. In one galaxy the Altarians received an all planets within x parsecs improved by 16. They had 4 planets in four systems, suddenly those systems had a dozen size 15 to 26 planets, really unbalanced the game.

        In my most recent game there was a UP vote to permanently limit starbase modules to 2 or 3. Had I lost the vote I would have abandoned that game.

          I actually would like more random events most of the time, so that the game be more varied. I don't see space sharks very often, and the +X PQ is really fun on small maps as you may use it to send colony ships to previously useless planets in or near an opponent's sector.

            I usually only get economic booms and recessions or xenophobia with any regularity. I went through an entire game once with only once event (economic boom). I need more random events!
