Could anyone point me to a good Galactic Civilizations beginner walkthrough?

Some good information there for you. There isn't really much you can do for a walkthrough. The game consists of expanding to colonize stars at first, then building constructors and securing resources, then winning. Of course, you can win at any time, that's just the usual pattern.
