  • MoM: Random events

Last time I browsed through the MoM manual, I noticed the "events" section, which describes various random events. This left me puzzled, as I never experienced any sort of random events during all of my games!(about a year of play experience)

Now I ask you, were random events killed by the latest patch (I think my MoM is a patched one, I don't know as I downloaded it at the Underdogs), or is it just me unlucky man that there are no events.

Or is there a very well hidden section of the main menu where you can them turn on or off?

I don't know the answer to your questions, but have certainly experienced Plague recently (I remember the yukky picture).

I believe you could turn off random events. I always left them on... they added a fun dimension to the game....
      some of them were:
      Earthquakes
Royal Weddings (a picture of a princess kissing an orc )
      Meteor
      Volcano
      plague....

      I cant remember any others.....

BTW, after I finish my Pentagenesis mod, I'll probably start work on a fantastic mod, in which the units will serve a dual purpose as civ III units and The Xarvh Project units.

Random events are definitely available in version 1.31 (the latest I know of). I just looked under "settings" (on the screen which comes up when you hit the "Game" button), and it looks like you can turn the random events messages on and off. I don't know if that turns the events themselves off, or if they happen without telling you.
"THE" plus "IRS" makes "THEIRS". Coincidence? I think not.

Yup. Plenty of the above in any 1.31 game. The level of random events - fun, not entirely stratgy-wrecking - was another thing MOM got right.
"The number of political murders was a little under one million (800,000 - 900,000)." - chegitz guevara on the history of the USSR.
"I think the real figures probably are about a million or less." - David Irving on the number of Holocaust victims.

                Greetings,
I checked and realized that in the game settings menu, the random events box was unchecked - silly me ,
seems like I turned them off in prehistoric times...

Whatever, thank you for the music

                  That might explain it.

I got random events all the time. Most of them were minor things like pirates taking a few hundred gold. The most common was where one type of node makes double mana, and the others make half.

But there was one absolutely devastating type of random event: the Mana Short. All mana production from all sources stopped entirely, and it lasted for dozens of turns. I lost all of my unit enchantments and summoned creatures. On the last turn of the mana short, I even lost Torin because I couldn´t pay his upkeep.

                      More random events:

                      - Doubled effect of holy bulidings (temples, cathedrals, parthenons & shrines) and halved on dark buildings.
                      - The opposite to the previous
                      - Double power from Blue/Red/Green nodes, half power from the rest
I'm not a complete idiot: some parts are still missing.

You mean.... other than some of us zipping the 7 floppy disks and sendin'em you via email???

(I think tho that the manual alone made worth buying the game regularly)
