So they're reviving this old game engine and adding new content or this is a whole new game? I really liked the BG series and even still have BG2 installed on my machine but it's a pretty dated engine now. I mean when did BG2 come out? 12 years ago? Or is that the point, the game is now freeware so some people are using it as a cheap way to add some new content of their own design?

Actually, this website (http://www.baldursgate.com/news/2012...anced-edition/) says that Overhaul Games is redoing Baldur's Gate I & II. It looks like they're modernizing the old Infinity game engine, updating the game (maybe to 4th edition rules?), and probably adding in some more content. I really liked BG I&II so this might actually be worth buying.

This post on the official website (http://www.baldursgate.com/news/2012...anced-edition/) does talk about porting classic AD&D games for the Ipad though so we probably will see the enhanced edition of BG I&II with both Ipad and MacOS support.

It's expected that a remake will look better than the original game. However, Beamdog isn't content to simply update the graphics of Baldur's Gate and call it a day. They're adding new content as well

That one says they're updating all the art in the game plus adding new content in the form of new places to explore plus they're adding in new NPCs who can join the party. There will also be new classes and kits players can choose to play plus they're including an adventure editor so fans can make their own adventures using the Infinity engine. Changes to the game engine will include support for higher resolutions then in the original versions, the ability to zoom and unzoom the screen even in the middle of combat, and they say there are other changes which they won't disclose right now.

That article says the level cap was increased and new classes added so the entire game had to be rebalanced. New content for higher level game play is included. BG Enhanced Edition will be for PCs, MacOS, and IOS but not for consoles as they say the game controller isn't well suited to the game.

Quickly, someone carry me to an online petition site right away. I'd go there myself but I'm just so weak with shock. D…

That one says that many of the original voice actors have been rehired so that the NPCs can still talk to the PC and they'll sound the same when you move from the old content to the new expanded content. Lastly they claim the old user interface is being upgraded to be easier to use and to support a more impressive gaming experience.

Beamdog boss Trent Oster has been throwing out tidbits of information on the upcoming Enhanced Edition of Baldur's Gate in a flurry of activity on Twitter, spotted by Shacknews. They suggest that Beamdog's updated version of Bioware's RPG classic will feature a raised level cap to provide a bit of extra headroom for the new quests. The enhanced edition will feature a few new characters, too.

That article is mostly a repeat of what we already know; increased level caps, same voice actors, higher resolution, and new UI... They do talk about the inclusion of new optional side quests at various levels which sounds good since previous articles hinted that the new content would be simply at the highest levels. It also talks about expanded mod support for the community. Lastly, it says an expansion of Icewind Dale is more likely than a Baldur's Gate 3 as BG3 would require a completely new engine to be competitive with other RPGs these days.

Beamdog's Trent Oster continues to leak small bits off information on Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition via Twitter. We do a roundup of some of his latest tweets.

Mostly says the same stuff but mentions distribution will be both a boxed version as well as online distribution. The game will be localized into German, French, and Spanish with other languages in the works. The party can still have no more than 6 players (one PC and five NPCs) but the game will be rebalanced so that it remains difficult even with the new classes and content so we can expect to see more bad guys in all the old dungeons plus enhanced old bad guys with more tricks & magic items.

The enhanced iPad version of classic role-playing game Baldur's Gate, slated for release this summer, won't cost you more than $10. Also, it will support multiplayer.

Ugh. BGEE will have multiplayer support at least for the Ipad version. BTW the price for the Ipad edition is said to be "less than $10".

Classic Western role-playing games are hard to find these days. The most successful ones are chimeras, like Mass Effect 3 and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, games that graft a role-playing game's quests and statistics onto shooting or action-based mechanics. Even party-based RPG series like Dragon Age can't seem to…

A different article from the same source says multiplayer will also be for the PC version, a full screen mode will be included, all of the expansions for both BG 1&2 will be included along with new content for each (so they're updating 2 games and 4 expansion packs with new content, making the new classes usable both games, make the new UI consistent for both games plus the games will include most of the best mods the community has come up with over the last 14 years), and it says the prices will be "$10 each" so you'll have to pay $20 to get both games. They also say they want to redo Planescape which was another AD&D game released in the late 90's.

I hope they add more romance options/quest options.

I look forward to playing, I have read a bit, but never played more than an hour or two.

BG is probably the best classic AD&D adventure game out there.

They're now saying there will be a steady stream of DLC to keep revenues up as well as to provide additional content and play time.
