This was the first 4X space game I played, and the nostalgia factor alone is through the roof. It had amazing graphics for the time-- a 3-D rotatable galaxy map! And the musical score was hauntingly epic.

Unfortunately, it also had perhaps the most brain-dead AI of any game I ever played. However, they patched it at some point (in the days when obtaining a patch wasn't really possible for most people), and this version has the updated AI, apparently.

Did anyone else ever play this? Will you get the iOS version? Mine is downloading now...

I bought it when it came out in 95 iirc. I still play a game about once a year. It ran fine up to XP. I had to use DosBox in Win7. The patch did not really do anything to make the AI play well. It had great sound effects and I stilll like to hear the plasmatron smack into ships.
