I've got a PS3!

So I finally crumbled in the January sales and picked up a PS3 with Uncharted 2 and Killzone 2, and some Blu-rays. I just moved flat and got a new 42" plasma and a bigger AV cabinet so it seemed a good time.

The other games I will probably pick up over the next few months (though it will be busy with ME2 and Bioshock 2 coming out, and AC2, Bayonetta and L4D2 still to play) are Ratchet and Clank (the newer one I think), Uncharted and God of War collection. I'm also musing about Demon's souls and Valkyria: Chronicles.

Demon's Souls looks fantastic I want a PS3 for that game alone (have already played a few of the older ones after borrowing one last summer)

Asher has a job and other games to play, and doesn't have any interest in games that are designed to be frustrating. It's not that the game is HARD, it's that you just die a lot randomly. It's pointless, IMHO.

You walk into a room and you're ambushed and killed in one hit. There's no way to know that would happen. Then you have to go find something else. It's all trial and error.

It's for people who like to think they're hardcore because they're persistent and have too much time on their hands. You would love it, DrSpike.

Yeah, it's a bit stupid. Maybe he doesn't know anything about TVs. It wouldn't surprise me given how little he know about everything else.

Yup - had a good LCD before that I bought about 4 years ago, but wanted a bigger/newer set when I moved. It wasn't convenient to buy before the move.

What's the resolution? 1366x768?

Hope you like hot TV sets, high power draws, risk of burn-in, and fading brightness over time.

No - and don't think I didn't notice your drawing attention away from the fact Demon's Souls is too hard for you.

There's nothing wrong with buying a plasma in 2010. It's a good model with great reviews.

Other than the fact that Plasma is a dying technology, is remarkably inefficient in terms of power use + heat output, suffers from burn-in, and fades over time? Not to mention that virtually no Plasma is native 1080p.

Maybe it's different in Canada but there are plenty of options for good full HD plasma screens. I went for the Panasonic G10. There are tonnes of really good January sales deals at the moment, and who cares if in a couple of years LED etc takes over.

Bottom line is it's fantastic for both gaming and DVDs/Blu-rays, and I got a great deal - I'm really pleased with it. There's nothing available at the same price point that is better for me. If something better is available in 3-4 years I'll buy one of those then.

I'm interested to know what super-plasma-beating sets you and Wiglaf have. Or are they the same set?

They say they're full HD. They're not. Virtually no Plasmas are. By Full HD they mean they take 1080p as a signal, not that they display 1920x1080 resolution.

What model did you get?

I have a 42" 1920x1080 LCD that's nearly four years old. When I move (sometime later this year) I'll be getting a high-end 52"+ LED-backlit LCD TV, one of the next generation coming out in the spring.
