  • HoI3 demo and manual

While we wait for HoI3 to come out, PI is giving us "gifts" every weekday. Last week we got among other things the quickplay guide, today we got the manual and info on the demo, which comes tomorrow:

You wanted a demo before release and you will get a demo before release. We’ll publish it on media sites worldwide, like Fileplanet etc. The launch will be at 9am PST (6pm CET) tomorrow Tuesday.

In anticipation of the demo release, we are releasing the in-game manual. Either to give you something to do before the demo or to give you the upper hand once it’s released on Friday.

    Demo details:
You will be able to play the 1939 scenario for 4 months, until January 1940, as either Germany, Poland, France or United Kingdom, with full access to all gameplay features. The demo will also contain the tutorial.
Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God.-Isaiah 41:10
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made - Psalms 139.14a

I think I will just wait for the game. I hate getting into demos for stategy games and then being stuck not being able to finish them.

Great, I was trying to decide whether to buy it when it came out, or wait a while till some patches come out.

Just downloaded a demo. How to change a country to play a Greece instead of France or anyone of the original four? Who cares about France anyway?

Yeah, right. I'll get my full legal version tommorow. But I'm already figured out how to modify my demo to play as any country (not just these four). Thank you very much for your input. Looks like Russians are the smarterst people on Earth when in comes to modding of .exe files.

                  Suckers.

p.s. It's still a demo tough. So I'm gonna pay my $$$ to Paradox anyway tommorow.

I was very disappointed with the demo and it appears that HOI3 shipped out in a very unfinished state. I did a test where I did not move any units, automated everything I could, set the clock timer to as fast as it would go, then I saw how long it took for just one month to pass in real time. It took 4 minutes and 15 seconds. That's just to damn slow especially since it was at the beginning of the game and things slow down more and more as time goes on (since more units are built and what not). They obviously didn't optimize a damn thing because my rig is well above their minimum specs but it still performs unacceptably slow on the easiest part of the game even with the resolution as low as it goes and with all options off.

You can't trade resources for resources any more and instead can only trade them for cash. I find that odd since the USSR (and later other communist states) normally traded resources for resources due to a shortage of hard currency.
