  • Age of Empires III: Asian Dynasties

First of all, isn't it time to make an Age of Empires IV?

2nd, I didn't like Age of Empires III, did any of you?

Well anyway, I decided to check out what BHG are doing, last I heard of them they were doing CATAN, which is not in my interest.

But looks like they are building the next AoE, which I'm happy about because I miss playing those kind of games. I still think AoE I and II offered the most fun.

    Anyway, the game looks alright:

    *hits self*

Game is out already.... for how long? I am really losing touch. I guess I just don't care for games as much as I used to anymore.

This is a sad day for me.

Yeah, Asian Dynasties has been out for a while - since Oct 2007.

Ensemble Studios, the makers of the Age of Empires series, was closed by Microsoft fairly recently, after they finished Halo Wars. 3 new companies have spawned from the death of Ensemble from former employees.

Big Huge Games, the makers of Rise of Nations and Asian Dynasties, is reportedly trying to be sold by their parent THQ but if they are unsuccessful, then they will reportedly shut it down.

All in all, it is not a good time for PC strategy gaming companies right now (except for Relic and Blizzard).

Oct 2007!?!? that's bad, real bad... I must be really disconnected from the gaming world now. Or maybe the game just didn't get any publicity?

A shame BHG is going down the drain, they seemed alright.

Blizzard pretty much owns gaming on the PC nowadays, which is good because they're probably the greatest gaming company of all time.

(in a nice way) at Frostyboy.

now thats out the way, yeah agree i didn't like AOE3 as much as the previous two. Possibly it was because it was much of the same thing that the series became for me(fast mouse click), so i didn't see it progressing much(or i just got bored by that mechanic?), but also as per my normal issue with games over the last 5 years or so, i felt it was going down the graphics over game road that many feel forced to follow.

Age of Empires(the first game) and it's expansions were at the time one of those great games, almost as important to Civ was to my gaming...but yeah i guess once you understood it all boiled down to fastest mouse clicker wins(this is a slightly over egged from me here), well it started to loose some charm.

But yeah fingers crossed BHG can rise from the ashes(and from under the unappreciative thumb of THQ) and get back to doing some good things.

And Microprose might(/would) have something to say about Blizzard being the greatest gaming compnay of all time. Blizzard are indeed vital for current PC gaming health.

I hear that a sequel to Civ3 is coming out soon. This will surely take up all of my gaming time.

Try again, we all knew about those before Oct 2007.

At least ones that sold their souls to MS.

I hear its set on Alpha Centauri, and has factions instead of Civs - isn't that rad?

AOE3 sucks. AOE2 sucked. AOE1 was okay. BHG == sold.

Rise of Nations was excellent though.
